hey ppls, yeah im new to this site and seems great and there is heaps of info on things so got a few questions for the modifiers and more knowledgeable ppl.
well ive only had my sierra for a few weeks and quite like it but i want to upgrade it so i can got out crazy 4wding, came with 29inch wheels and think they are illegal but dont protrude the guards and it only has the front bodylift in.
wondering if anyone has any parts that they could sell for cheap to beef it up, spot lights, cb, or an old sierra with some of the major things done.
would love to have a project to do over the holidays and would love to do it all myself so also wondering how hard is it to get these modifications past in NSW, would want to do a SPOA, possibly a bodylift kit (not sure how hard those are) and probably a GTI engine swap mainly because they are great revy engines and i was a swift person for the last few years and well its cheaper and easier to find a GTI motor than the G16BB motor. so if anyones has any hints and tips that would be great or any things they have for sale would be good thanks.

Fair bit of work to do a SPOA properly. I can help you out with the Body Lift, they're simple to install, 3 hours. When you say front body lift what do you mean?
Engine wise the G16B would be the best engine, you don't need anything revvy as almost 4wding is done just off idle and you want torque low down in the revs.

With the GTi motor I suggest a custom passenger side (in australia) engine mount as the stock ones blow in a week. Also custom headers are not needed, just buy a sierra header and get an exhaust shop to weld a GTi flange on. Lastly buy a angle drive for the dizzy or research some of the cheaper options on here.

yeah i thought about the g16b but a lil more fuel and i cant seem to find one for under 1000 but i can find a gti (whole car) for a few hundred. plus i do most town driving, would love to go off roading more but dont know any of the good tracks around northern NSW
with the front lift lol its dodge but it works, got the car off a mechanic and he said he was gonna put in the lift, came with blue slip and 900 for rego (swapped my swift) but yeah seems he only put in like 2 square pipes in the front behind bumper and thats all. i thought the body lift you had to take apart the steering column and bumper and stuff? the SPOA would be alot of work but thats why i would like a spare sierra to work on over the holidays and slowly do all the work myself.
as for a dizzy for the GTI i would probly get that mazda one that works.

Is it true that there are more lesbians in Lismore than any other aussie town?
Congrats on your new car too.

use your time to learn to drive your car as it is, its way more capable than you are/think it is.
do some research and buy what suits your needs when you get there.

lol well there are lots of gay ppl yes lol as for the learning to drive the car as it is well i dont know how long it takes you to get used to a car but ive driven and owned most types and very capable driver, confident but not over cocky. i do alot of travelling and have to travel to get to good 4wd tracks and well with the standard g13ba motor 90km/h is its top speed on flat roads and slower on hills mainly because sierras have the aerodynamics of a lunchbox, as for a SPOA i think is one of the best ways to get better clearance for bigger tyres which generally determine how far your 4wd can go.
mainly wondering how strick they are on passing mods? like the engine conversion and the SPOA, is it normally easy pass if its all done and works or very particular about welds and how it was done?

hey hey
in my experience so far i reckon that a 2 inch body lift (recently fitted), some decent suspension, ofset rims and 31s will give you a very capable car. i think that 31 is a big enough tyre for general 4x4ing as if you run stock diffs you will rarely diff out as you dont fit in the rutts properly anyways.
but all this depends on what you want to do with your car and how serious you would like get.
anyways dnt rush into anything and research it b4
enjoy ur build up

hey yeah thanks for those links, im not so big on the rear lockers, ive seen ppl not being able to turn whith then (just keep sliding forwards)
the bodylift i think is good but i personally would rather the SPOA cos it raises the frame aswell, you can get up bigger rocks with it.
just got back from the beach, went awesome and floated over the sand didnt even come close to gettin stuck unlike my mates pajero lol but yeah i would like to keep it simple and tough, i like my bush mechanics stuff. will post a pic some time.

This is why myself (and some others), do not like welded diffs. Proper diff locks should allow easy turning when they are not engaged; some auto-lockers do not like disengaging though. If you dont know what I'm talking about search diff locks etc. There are millions of threads on here about them, and on other forums, and everywhere on the interwebs. Dont write them off, I'd love diff locks.

u will find as mentioned, sierras often do not have the weight to transfer and unlock the locker, so they are more so auto unlockers not lockers as they are mostly locked in.
I have welded rear and auto locker in front. love it but do still hate the steering on hard ground.
also air lockers work the same as a welded diff once they are locked in.

Front locker is heaps worse,
heaps worse.

Very different mods there, yes both provide lift but with very different dynamics. Also to set up a SOA is costly and time consuming.

nah not against lockers at all just my prefrence is without, i think i would go with the air lockers if i got into it that crazy but for now i still have to get my sierra stuck, should be trying out EMU Park soon see what it can do, i think i like my everyday almost stock but want to build a 4wd buggy with the modifications. i dont expect it to be legal and want to do it myself, its fun creating a lil monster and i just dont like paying other people to do what i can do myself or learn to do.

Yep, a spoa with open diffs really is the hot setup for climbing rocks.

plus the 2" body lift on just the two body mounts on the front of the car. All combined = awesome
