Sierra Power Steer Q

I am looking at getting a vitara power steering box. And fitting either a baleno pump, or a falcon pump..
The falcon pumps wont bolt on, but don't they have the reservoir bottle intergrated onto the pump?
The baleno pump should bolt onto my motor..as my motor is from a baleno. But will it be strong enough to push the vitara box? Also will need to run a reservoir bottle elsewhere.
I am running 33x12.5's unlocked atm
But i want a front locker..with Chromo axles etc..

Look for a Jimny box, straight bolt up fit

I just fitted power steer to my Zook.
Best mod I've done yet..
I thought about Vitara but it's a bit dodgy with the adaptor plate etc..
I looked and looked for a Jimny setup but couldn't find anything.
I ended up importing a box from NZ out of their Samurai.
It bolted straight in to chassis and drag link... NO mods.
I used a 198? Toyota Celica pump, reservoir and lines.
PS: Older model Falcon pumps have integrated reservoir IE: anything pre EA. Not that I'd use one one as they are quite large.

Jimny box and full system was quoted 1K.. I say they keep their 1K system.
I can do/make cheaper. Will be engineered.
Importing a Samurai box may be the way to go..But i may have trouble finding one. And parts/sealkits etc. Any links to who may have one?
And do you have a front locker? Hows the steering?

I would say the current Jimny one would be the same as the sammy one if the bolt holes etc are the same

I found mine on 'Trade Me', a kiwi site similar to Ebay..
It took 12 months of twice weekly searching to find it though!
Parts would be readily available through Suzuki I guess if you can provide part numbers.
Not real sure.
I have an ARB in the front with chromo axles and 33"117 Extremes and quite often forget to turn the locker off cause the steering is so nice.
All up, my setup cost less than $600 including new belt and fluid.

With the pump, is the bracket a modified factory job or custom made

Well i can price up a jimny box.. Not going to be cheap..
I have found a link on a toyota box as well. But dodgy drop arm. I would have find a better one.
http://www.geocities.com/rota_zuk/Suzuk ... rsteer.htm
Also i still have the idle up load wire on my engine harness to keep the revs up while steering. As this link says his engine stalled on idle when steering.

i will price up a jimny box tomorrow. See how i go. Then go from there.
Are there certain pressures, like a minimum/maximum for a jimny box?
I dont want to blow it if i put a Falcon pump on it..

In regard to fitting a Falcon pump... I wouldn't be worried about any pressure difference IN the pump.
I'd be worried that the Zook motor can easily do a lot more revs than the big 6 the pump is geared for.. IE: the pulley size is wrong..
That's why I used a Celica pump.... FOUR CYLINDER.
I would have used a Vitara pump/reservoir but none were available at the time and the celica setup was $1.25 on Ebay.

Hi all
Wasnt ther a guy that was going to make up the adaptor plates for the vitara box to sierra chassis?
I am after the plate if anyone can make one or sell them. I just got a vitara kit from the wrecker for 330 cash, that included the steering arm as well if I wanted to use it. All I need is the plate

I've set up an AU pump on a G13BB (reason - multi V belt, intergral reservoir, cheap and readily available, easy pump pressure modifications.)
It's been fine to date - a couple of years.

Woo! Thats my point, Eaisily avaliable and internal bottle and multi v for my baleno 1.6!
What pump pressure mods did you do?
Cool Mr steve. I just need to find a good box to suit now.

None as yet, but they're well documented on Pirate.
It's on a car running 8" rims and 35 13.5 Krawlers. The steering is light on the move and in general off road use but the box will stall out if you try steering with it jammed up.

Just been quoted $72 for Vit PS pump and reservoir, $55 for Vit box + steering arm. Not saying where as they only have one
Does anyone currently machine up the wedges needed to fit the Vit box to the Sierra chassis? Don't have the tools to do it myself

I may make mine up soon...with maybe extra's?
Have to buy the steer box. But will tomorrow. and pump etc..
Still have to work out sizes/angle of plate etc..

I'm still waiting on an adaptor to my PS conversion too. I've cut a block of alloy down into a wedge but I think it might be too thick/greater angle. I can't test fit it until I do my g16a engine conversion.

Had a job near the wrecker this avo ... dropped in to pick up the PS pump and box ... the young guy serving me goes out the back, comes back with a box and slaps a Vit master cylinder and manual steering box down on the counter
Had a bit of a laugh and explained that I didn't only want to be able to steer when pumping the brakes. Took him a few seconds to work out what he'd done (he'd only been in the job for a few weeks) followed by
Poor bloke. Was funny but
Still up for an adaptor if anyone's making some ... I'm sure I'll pick up a Vit box somewhere along the line.

How much u willing to pay for this wedgee
I may be busy tomorrow. But if im not.i will pick up my vitbox maybe a pump..If multiv pulley.
MOPH What area are you? Cos there is a slow young bloke at my wreckers

bout the 100 mark i would reckon at a guess?
or under even better

$100 wedgee + postage sounds fair, including the countersunk bolts and holes drilled. Not much in it to make 1, but if you can machine and sell 10-15 at a time you'd be on a winner
But then I'm an engineer not a machinist, so my idea of time and labour required to make up an adaptor plate is probably way off
Nah I'm in Adelaide mate.

Ok i will see what i can do.
It will be mild steel(normal steel), Milled/tapered to shape. Countersunk high tensile bolts either way. Through chassis and through box. Also nyloc nuts
I will also make the taper as thin as possible with strength (so its not like 20mm thick on the thin side of taper)
I will try and make a little kit.
Price to be advised. But under $100.
