16s handle better and you will get a better load rating with a 16.

15s will fit on series 1 & 2 GUs except 4.8 petrol.

I got spun alot of BS on this subject. First i got told they dont fit. 15's do fit fine!! Just check the offset. And then i got told that the brakes need more air around them to cool  .
Yes 16's are better for pure handling on the road. But depending on what size tyres your putting on as to what size rim i would get and purpose. 33's or bigger, go the 15's. Tyres are cheaper. More air in the tyre means smoother ride. And if your going offroad 16's just dont bubble like 15's do!! I noticed instantly in the bush and on the beach with performance running both size tyres at 10 psi.

But its upto you...

15" steel wheels will be fine except for 4.8's as mentioned above but watch it with alloys as they are thicker so there is less clearance. My alloys come very close and sometimes rub on the brake calipers on the front when the wheel bearings start to loosen.

I have fitted 15" x 10" steel rims with a -40 offset and 35's on my GU patrol waggon and they fit. Have had no dramas with this setup.
