SOME ARB BARS

Hello All

why do ARB make some winch bars that are no compatible with the fairlead or hawse . What is the point in someone from ARB selling you this bar BULLSHITTING to you that everything is okay YOU THEN DONT BUY A WARN WINCH AND LETS FOR EXAMPLE say my winch is the purchase. You go back to the bloke and he tells you oh sir these are for warn winches ,okay cockroach i will buy a warn fairlead $200 ,take it home and still not compatible ,,you take it back ,,oh sir sometimes you need to redrill the holes ,,WHATS THE F%#@#N POINT OF BUYING THIS WINCH BAR,

I had to re-drill my fairlead with a warn XD9000, Warn fairlead and ARB winch bar on the lux- Fairleads are only one size, and bullbars are 20 different sizes.

And of COURSE they design their winch bars for the winch they sell! It doesnt really make sense for ARB to design a winchbar to fit a TJM Ox Winch and not the Warn they sell!

Do the WARN FAIRLEADS come in different sizes ??
Have WARN changed the size ???

i had to re drill my winch bar for my mile marker, it's an ARB delux ? winch bar for my 80.

I think Pauls complaint is not even the ARB Fairlead fits to the ARB Bar without drillwork.

my tigerz 12000 fit my GU bar perfectly, so some bars are good!

I think my bar is a factory nissan/arb bar. no badges on it so I'm not 100% sure.

there are two types of fairlead, one which will have the slot lined up with the holes and some in which they are offset, most warn's have the offset fairlead, some do not.. so i guess some would need to be redrilled...

was it a brand new bar and fairlead or an old bar with a new fairlead? Was it a bar that was designed for high or low mount winches? Also the ARB bars are made to run steel cable so the fairleads for steel cable is completely different to the type used for plasma, so I'd expect that redrilling maybe a result

Looks like that bar is designed to take standard roller fairleads for steel cable.
I'm guessing the problem lies with the fact that you got synthetic/plasma rope with hawse fairleads which are smaller, therefore don't line up.
The sales dude should have told you this if you mentioned it to him.

the fairlead is to be drilled becuase of better angles for the wire rope. this has been something arb have been doing from day dot. the yanks often mount thier winches feet down, and then mount thier fairleads where they like. here in australia most bars will mount feet forward and for the best cable angle through the fairlead the holes are to be re-drilled.

My Warn 10k fitted straight up to my GQ and so did my XD9000.. they both also fitted my TJM bar on the GU.....

to prove a point to the ARB salesman the warn fairlead they had there was put up to the bar ,,,,then was his reply oh sir sometimes you need to redrill holes ,,,so the warn FAIRLEAD for cable also did not match ,BUT ANOTHER LEARNING POINT THANKS FOR THE REPLIES FELLOWS

I still think you are missing the point a bit tigerz.

In fact, ARB don't have any holes for mounting the fairlead, only the winch. The warn roller fairlead doesn't in all cases, line up with the winch mounting holes, because, as has been explained, in the US they like to mount their winches feet down and put the fairlead wherever.

You can't blame ARB for that.

Drilling a couple of holes in the warn fairlead to make it line up with the winch mounting holes isn't the end of the world, surely.... unless you are running plasma and an aluminium hawse, which ARB don't design their bars for. You can't blame ARB for that either - only a tiny % of their bar buyers would be interested in either.

I just took to mine with an angle grinder, and used the standard bolt holes for the fairlead - no issues then :lol:


AND it's a tigerz11 winch, that I've had for over 2 years and it's still going as strong as the first day I tried it (free plug :D )

Seen it done it Thats just the way they are just drill the holes and go get dirty.
Or ditch the electric and get a propper winch.

You can get a replacement roller kit for a roller fairlead to run plasma rope which may line up to the mounting holes, or you can then just drill new ones through the fairlead.

Drilling new mounting holes aint the end of the world though and isn't that difficult.

Yes you can, they designed the bar to have the winch mounted feet forward, so they should have designed it with correct fairlead holes too or teach their dickwad salesmen how to inform their cutomers.

You pay top dollar at ARB to get worlds best practice, someone spruiks that crap, now who could it be I can't remember which company :roll:

maybe take the time to read the instructions.they did design it for feet forward hence the extra holes, any other way and there would not be any room between the bar and winch for nuts to mount the fairlead. like i said the holes have to be drilled for optimum cable angles, and a company like warn aint gonna add extra holes just for one market. other makers don't bother with the extra holes so watch as the steel cable eats the bar or fairlead frame.

I remember when fitting god knows how many Genuine Toyota Winch bars that I had to drill all the Warn and then Superwinch Fairleads that were the Genuine options at the time,end of 80Series Start of 100Series.

The Warn fairlead was never made to align with the winch mounting feet.
ARB and others (note Toyota etc above) have always put in fitting inst to redrill 2 holes 25mm in.

The bbars are not designed primarily for plasma either. As you can see by moving your fairlead 25mm you have found the answer!
