Deep cycle batteries

How long should a deep cycle battery last?
I've got an Exide extreme deep cycle which would only be 14 months old. Always been maintained properley, never fully discharged and has only ever been left fully charged with no load on it when parked for a while. It's now only holding 10 volts of charge when engine is off.
14.4 volts across both with engine running and at alternator.

Find your receipt - it's farked.
Edit. Are you measuring across the battery terminals, or positive to chassis?

Yeah i know its farked, and according to Exide's web site and the sticker on the battery only has a six month warranty which is worth about as much as ABC Learning Centres.
Any suggestions on a replacement deep cycle if Exide won't come good on warranty?

Both, and both were b/w 9.5 and 10 volts with engine off. Engine running had 14.4 volts across it, so its definately farked and not holding charge.

6 months doesnt sound right. There should be a marking melted into or written onto battery, what are the digits?

Take it to the exide shop on corner of rooks rd and queen st in nunawading, along with your receipt and speak to the bloke there.
As a replacement, id look at the full river/haze/trojan AGM's. Probably double the cost of a flooded, but better recharge characteristics from what i have read and able to be discharged greater without damage. A 105 ah is about equivalent size to an N70, but they are bloody heavy.
me3@neuralfibre.... has some good info on his website/blog.

I looked into the AGM type a couple of weeks ago to replace my shagged acc battery, but well the $500+ price tag was just too much. I went for an AC Delco again instead. Fully sealed and no maintenence. Best of both worlds with them too with long amp hour draw (90amp hour) and 800 CCA and for $180 cant complain at that. Also a standard N70 size. They do have larger ones too if you have a bigger tray. They have a good rep for longevity too...

That's what I thought when I read it on the battery. Checked their website and its in black and white there as well. I doubt I would have bought it had I known it only had six months warranty on it.

You can get the AGM deep cycle Exide Orbitals for $300 if youre charming enough, theyre a pretty good battery.

They're an exide, they have sort of left a sour taste in my mouth after the current one that has only lasted 14 months and been looked after.

Yeh fair enough, find a good brand and stick with em.
I use exide as we use em at work sometimes and havent had much trouble. When i do have any trouble i just take em back, they just test it and swap, no arguments or bullshoot hassles.

I think you will find most deep cycle batteries are covered by a 6 months warranty, very few that have anything longer than this.

Understandable... i picked up a blue top at the start of the year for $260 from the shop i listed above.. 900CCA and 50ah, 12month warranty. I originally bought it to go in my old 4runner were running dual batteries was more trouble than it worth. I had one previously, it up and died after 2.5 years, no winch, fridge etc to draw it down, but i did have trouble with alternators in that period.
They are a good battery, and at the time there wasnt many AGM's readily available on the market, but now you have so many to choose from.
A few good website i have found are:
