Noisey Issue on Sunny Coast

Post by DigitalStillPhotos »

Hi Folks,

Got a bit of a noisey issue with my paj... its an 89 V6... whenever the steering is near lock, it lets of a high pitched squealing/crunching noise whenever it hits a bump like a gutter.. either reversing or driving forward... usually when right hand down lock..

Also a new issue, while photographing at Tough Tracks Round 3, it picked up a new noise which has appeared now and then... first noticed it when we were leaving The Springs 4x4 Park.. the front left hand side makes a sound like a piece of cardboard is stuck edge onto the tire and making a fapping sound like its rubbing on tyre lugs (which it doesnt have)

Havent done any mods really.. its got 40mm tough dog springs in the back and torsion bars wound up... new shocks are due.. but i dont think they are the issue here.. but could be wrong... appreciate any help....

If anyone knows what it is and wants to lend me a hand fixing it (i'm not scary just not got a whole ton of mechanical experience) i'm happy to offer free photos of ur vehicle at some location to make ur vehicle look good in exchange for ur help

Thanks for reading and hope you can help

Tim
p.s. Anyone know what a full set of bushes would cost for this heap? looks like a few need replacing... just not sure

The issue when turning at lock is most likely going to be the steering stops. On the front wishbones there are some stops that stop you from turning too hard, when at hard lock if you hit a bump they will slide against the stops mounted to the chassis causing this squeeling sound.
Try greasing them up a bit, if that works then i wouldn't worry about it if you get that sound again as its just metal on metal contact that probably can't be fixed too easily.

As for the other sounds I'm not too sure...

Your other noise could be a stone in your brake backing plate.
Sometimes driving backwards hard then braking will remove it.

Found the issues.. bloody simple fixs too..

front squeak was the steering stops rubbing ... bit of grease and its gone... few other squeaks were removed by sticking in some new rubbers
