You might have to wait until tonight (AEST) for a reply - there are 3-4 Nissan dealership workers on here though that can help.
Can i ask what happened to the motor??

The stuff is that the engine suffered lack of lubrication on the cylinders.
The piston rings came out from the block welded to the pistons, all 4 pistons and respective rings.
Connecting rod and main bearings are ok, crankshaft is standard.
The camshafts are ok too, just the usual stuff with cylinder head, valve replacements, valve seats, valve guides, valvle oil seals, the usual.
Cylinder head surface is good, a fine flat surface. The problem were with the pistons and rings.
This is a Patrol engine, the vehicle is a 2004 Patrol.
Thanks for the tip.
Cheers!

I dont know if its your car or a customers/friends, but once you've rebuilt it, if you have a GOOD search here on OL, there's a list floating around with some really good preventative maintenence/modifications for the ZD30 motor, as they can be a bit fragile.
Good luck anyways!

!Hola!
Is this the VVT engine? They have issues with high EGTs (exhaust gas temperature) melting the top end.
There is a thread in the tech section of
www.aulro.com/afvb on them as well. A guy there installed a pre-turbo EGT on one, and the temps went to high 600's (oC) with almost no load.

Thanks for the advices.
For me, the best engines for Patrol are the SD33 and TD42.
I rather have a TD42 than ZD30.
This engine is not mine, is from a relative, I'm just fixing it.
I'll be checking the site for what I'm looking for.
Cheers!

Me too!!
We've owned the 'family bus' GU since new (May 2001), its got 170k on it and has never missed a beat, but it has been maintained as per schedule (10 000km intervals) with semi syn oil. But I must admit, I am thinking to changing it to 5000km intervals, with a good oil flush every time.
