Yep, it's the ball that sits between the two rails.

Keep an eye on the weld when bending the sticks. I had to re-weld one and I think someone else also had to (mentioned somewhere in the original thread?).

Yep, I had to re-weld mine, when I got the package I opened the box to look at it and started screwing a shift knob on and it snapped
cool mod though I love it :D

What does the ball actually do that sits between the rails?

When i put my transfer back together i left one ball out!! I think it was the one between the rails from memory. It was a while ago and its been running fine since, I was spewing when i realised i had just finished putting it back together and had one ball left.
Thought i'd try it out anyway, and 6 months later i havent had a single problem.

Also, i know nothing of this twin sticks. Am i right in assuming that if i search i will find lots of info? haha

It is an interlock - so only one rail can move at once.

Remving the ball with a stock shifter will have no effect, but it will allow the 2WD/4WD and H/N/L rails to be shifted separately, once you have a twin stick.

I've had no interlock ball in my case for about 18 months and there's no problem. I'll get a twin stick eventually too....

The only actual advantage is you can get 2WD low without getting out of the car and unlocking the hubs, which might be useful if you have a front auto locker, for instance, and want to increase turning circle offroad.

Like a rear drive disconnect (which allows front wheel drive) when it's cool it's cool, but it's not all that useful a lot of the time. More levers are always better though. :D

For one, having twin stick allows you to carry a second stubby holder...

You don't need 2 sticks to have 2low.

I removed the detent ball when I fitted gears so I can get 2low but have never used it.

What welds are you guys talking about? I bent my sticks as per the supplied diagram before welding and it was all sweet.

Twin sticks FTW!

Hey Jas, question for ya. This pic shows 2 High being available at D in the new no detent ball shift pattern:

But then they talk about the 'alternate' shift pattern where if you leave the stick at A, a thief should only (according to their wording and diagram) be able to get 4 Neutral, 2 Neutral and 2 Low forming a pretty neat anti-theft device, unless they luck out and pull down at G to get to the standard J pattern:

What happened to D (2 High) in the second diagram? Can you no longer get to D once you've been to A? Just that according to their first diagram, a thief should be able to get 2 High by going full right from A and pulling down.....

Conflicting info :? What actually happens on yours?

The path to 2L is from 2H back to 4H (2-4 rod) then holding the shifter in the middle allows you to grab both rods, pushing them both forward puts into 2 Nuetral then moving across to the High Low rod you push forward to Low.
Now in reverse order if you go from 2L back to 2N and leave the shifter on the 2-4 rod it will take them a little longer to find high range. Well thats the theory anyway, when I tried it it took around an extra 3 seconds to find High.

This set up is OK for getting 2L for individual uses but off road its useless because you cant leave it in low and jump between 2 and 4 which is what you want. With F+R lockers I always drive in 2 low and only grab 4 when needed. Before the twin stick I had a different mod on the shifter, the twist locking cup that holds the shifter in the case was about 20 mm deeper, the spring held it down but it allowed me to go to 4L in the normal fashion the lift the shifter up and relocate it into the 2-4 rod which gave me Low range and 2 or 4 at the push of a lever.

Does anyone have any experience with this setup?
lowrangeoffroad wrote:Reverse-S 2wd Low Shifter Kit
Low Range Off-Road is proud to provide the popular 2 Wheel Drive Low Reverse-"S" Shifter kits. Sure there have been two wheel conversion kits on the market for years and some of good quality but none of them allow you to retain the detent balls. With out them installed you may have to search for the proper gear. This can be a real distraction on the trail when you should be picking your line not wondering if your in two or four wheel high or low range. You can also run the stock single shifter and tcase boots to keep water and other stuff out of your tcase. Not so with some twin stick kits.
You will have very positive shifts never having to "feel" around for a gear. This will allow you to have 2wd low range to your rear axle as well as a true neutral that is nice for those flat towing.
You must disassemble your transfer case to install this kit so allow your self some time. It is not hard to install and can be done with basic hand tools and a bit of Suzuki knowledge. A factory service manual is not a bad idea either. This would be a good time to add lower gears or to freshen up the old TC bearings, shifter sheet and seals.
Kit includes 2 remanufactured shift rails and forks, you just pull yours and install the new ones, now modification or hassle.
Note: There is not core charge for these parts but if you send back your old shift rails and forks, we will give you $40 in-store credit.
