The steering box is a straight forward bolt in job.
The only mod will be the taper on the GQ tie rod end doesn't match the 'new' GU pitman arm.
There are a couple of ways to fix this..........don't know enough detail to try to explain.......

If you are using an aftermarket drag link check with the manufacturer if they are using GU or GQ tie rod ends.
The " factory " GQ has a shorter tie rod taper BUT the gu is longer and will fit both GU and GQ pitman arms .
Everthing else is the same.
The tie rod ends on our drag links we manufacture use are the GU style so they bolt straight up.
The standard GU drag link is longer than a standard GQ so it is not a solution to put a factory GU drag link on a GQ either.

hi mate

just get a GQ box, rather than one that came out in a GU.

The GQ series 2's ( from about 94 onwards) have the larger ( gu type) box with the correct pitman arm

cheers,

I had the Series II GQ Box (larger one) snapped the sector shaft like a twig.

GU one in, and done harder since, no problems with it, in fact its alot lighter to turn compared to the GQ one, as said the only think you will need is a GU to GQ draglink to allow you to use GU box with GQ diffs. Snake racing, 3rds and a few others have them so its not a problem.

well i doubt that as the model numbers in the books (gergories) are different between GU and GQ (yes the later one) and the Pitman arm from a GQ box won't fit the GU box, so they are different.

the GQ series 2 pitman arm and the first gen GU, at least the 98 model, ( if you have experienced otherwise? i dont know about second gen) interchange

i have both boxes sitting under my bench.

although there coudl be weired shit happening between models at changevover?

Jes

PS anyone with a parts fische for both? we could check parts numbers for the shaft.
