My Zook lacks power.. any advise would help

hi,

obviously i no why i have a lack of power i am running 32" , 10.5 muddies but i wanna no if i should run a small turbo or supercharge. or would it be worth just puting new mtoro in it...

i want one.. but still how will that help... im talking highway driving aswell.. not just buch..

like small turbo might help

highway the fastest i go is 85km...


any ideas now..

A small turbo will set you back for more than the rockhopper will .. and most likley turn your psitons into scap alloy if not done properly ..

The rockhopper will help by giving you more favourable gearing, With the extra tyre size and weight as well as poorer aerodynamics all take a very large toll on the avaliable power of a small capacity motor ..
The rockhopper will allow it to sit in the rev range that the motor runs most efficiently at for a given speed .. at the moment your probarbly running 700 or so rpm below that range, so not only is the motor working harder it's doing it in the wrong gear. This will also take some strain of the gear box as it is presented with less load ..

does that make any sense ??

put more simply, the series 3 rockhopper drops high range gearing as well, so highway gearing is back to standard, roughly.

assuming your engine is in good condition, and well tuned, adding a decent exhaust/extractors makes a big difference, too.
1.3 motors have carbs that only work when in perfect condition and using very clean fuel.
a good stop gap idea is to run a 1.0litre t-case, if you aren't already as its 12% lower on hi and lo range. christover.

Plenty and Nowhere :D

Series 1 hoppers are about 1000 plus fitment (estimated total cost of 1200)

Series 3 hoppers are about 1200 plus fitment (estimated total cost of 1600 - because you'll probably install new bearings at the same time)

The place to call (in melbourne) is Total 4wd in Epping (03) 9401 4277 - they are the only distributor of Rockhoppers (from Big Balls Offroad) in Victoria.


You're other option is to import something similar from an American Suzuki aftermarket parts company like Calmini or Spidertrax etc... Given the Aussie dollar at the moment - this is a fairly competitive option.

i run 32'' bfg on my 90 zook
std engine + std gear ratio its great under 90kms. so check out ur vacuum secondrys. theres a hose from the carb body to the to the secondrys diaghram. the hose gets oil soaked n swells you then lose sendrys n hence lacking power set ur timing to 10-12 btdc also check catalytic converter as its comin to melt down & block the exhaust flow hence lake power. my hose goes every 10.00kms from age & oil.n my cats been changed twice in the last four years. but im not saying gears wont help just check the basics 1st

Try tailgating.

My stock sierra a few years ago, heading down the freeway, could barely do 65mph to 70mph, but i got behind a truck on the way back home one day and i was hitting 90mph (120kph at least). Aerodynamics suck, but having another vehicle do the "air cutting" for you is a cool way to go. Just don't crash.

Other option is turbo w/series 3 and then 130kph all day long....

Whenever mine is running like a bag of poo its usally out of tune..Advancing the timing and running a 98 octane makes mine go considerably faster!

I just remembered something else about poor performance.

The regular 7mm spark plug wires really take some bad heat from the exhaust, so you may wanna check those out, or just straight out replace them. Obviously my turbo cooked mine, but still, you'll wanna check those out...
