I did the same thing, (1.3 lever in 1.0 case) and it works fine. When i had them out i compared them, same. You might have to pull the lever out again and check if the selector rods are aligned.

1.0 shift light levers and 1.3 levers are the same.

1.0 non shift light levers are different.

There's never, ever any need to "smash" a lever in. sounds like you didn't guide the lever into the right position when you installed it.

If the case was in 2H when you took the old lever out, you need to put the new lever into 2H.

The easiest way is to put the case in 4H, then the slots in both rails line up when you put the lever in.

That's what you'll aiming for when you drop the lever in if it was in 4H when you took the old lever out.

I have two 1.3 shifters here that are different in the shaft of the lever. They function exactly the same in either case and the ball is the same but the diameter of the shaft is thicker above floor level. I didn't realise until I had one in the car that the gear boot (floor level one) didn't sit tightly around. One boot has a 20c piece sized hole, the other a 10c sized.

could two 1.0L non shift light levers be modded to suit a twin stick setup?

just a thought, are you locking the hubs in?

im assumung your checking it at the front shaft. if you can feel the shifter clicking into each position then the shifter isn't the problem, put the case into neutral and see if you can spin the front shaft (make sure the hubs are UNLOCKED) it should be locked up with the rear shaft, but it is neutral to the input shaft. Also try this in 4H. if the front shaft spins in these positions then you have an internal problem.

it could be as simple as a broken split pin on the shift fork, but the case needs to come apart to inspect it.
