Is it possible to get rid of the lucas wiring altogether from a rangie..i was thinking of making a custom dash for it so would re wire gauges etc..but does anyone know of a different steering coluum and blinker assembly that would fit..does anyone know of hidden dangers in doing this..i would assume that body wiring would be rather straight forward but not sure about mating up tacho, speedo and idiot lights, changing alternators etc....any thoughts.....P.S. i love this forum for info and ideas

That would be a bit of a job i reckon!! is it really worth it? itll cost a fortune for one thing and the Lucas wiring sucks i know but i wouldnt think it would be worth all that hassle to change it... yeah you can change your alt and starter to bosch and you could get your tacho recalibrated to suit your alternator etc but it would cost about $600-700 just for that and its no cheaper to rebuild a bosch alt or starter than it is a Lucas unit...

Less than $200.00 to recalibrate tacho to suit bosche alt.
Michael.
the rest not worth the cost unless you are undertaking much more work.

As long as the basics work and are relaible, I don't really give a shit about the rest.
Half the lights on the dash doopn't work at night, the interior lights come on once you go off-road or hit a bump in the road (have looked into it and still don't know the problem). Also had a ignition meltdown in the midlle on nowhere on a club weekend trip, but patched it up and it got me home (had to pass the lead over thwe positive terminal on the battery to get it started!!), and the electric windows didn't work one day (another harness meltdown, long story!!).
haven't had any more electrical dramas (touch wood!!), so it's been fine for a while now.

Shouldn't of spoken too soon, the bloody electric motor is playing up on the rear left window!!
I would NEVER have electric windows on a Rangie again, hate them with passion
. Have had nothing but annoying problems with them. You can't convert them back to wind downs on my model, as ther'e all electric!!!
I guess I'll have to lump it. the rest of the Rangie is great though.
