Spigot bearing the right size?
Clutch plate properly aligned?
Gearbox lined up square? Check the gap around the bellhousing to block?

I walked away from mine for a night with the same prob (but I was doing the job myself). Ended up being the starter lead from the battery was in the way.

yeah thats a Cookie of a wire it got in the way more thsn once..

i ended up with a bottle jack wedged inbetween the rear of the box and the diff and gave it a little jack it seemed to pop in andthen i just put in a bolt in every corner and it seemed to sandwich together quite easily after that.as i said i will be trying to put the rest together tomorrow night and i hope its all right..its a big job to do at home in a low garage..
