Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey all,

Attempting to piece together a suspension setup for my GU ute that will be capable for hardcore play weekends as well as extended travelling across this great country.

A run down on my ute>

single cab gu ute
35's daily driver
38's for play
locked front and rear
sagged 4in lift.
weighs 3t empty!!!

soon to have a full aluminium lockable canopy too.

I'm after high flex while still having sensible road manners. For those reasons this is where i am at so far...

4in flexy coils (rate to be determined)
superior hi-flex arms front
superior long arm kit rear
raised lower rear shock mounts.
raised front shock towers.
nissan rubber bushes.

comments on that setup? Can anything be improved? I suppose the biggest question i have is shocks, what to use? I'm hoping to have to whole lot for less than 5 grand, which should allow for some decent shocks.

(i loved the setup on ats4x4dotcom but at 10g im sure i could do something very capable)

So lets here it, what works and what doesnt for a hopefully best of both worlds setup!

you will find for touring you will want to cary weight, and for playing you want to keep it light. comming up with a system for both will be hard and you will have to make many compromises. and best of both worlds is a myth, its called a compromise for both worlds.

i guess something that could be done is to run poly airs inside the coils....

when playing you can dump all the air out and link them with a air line. but make sure they arent linked when driving at speed or on road...

My mistake, the word compromise should have been used. Interested in remote res shocks and the likes, something like fox, king etc. i know nothing about these.

i dare say i will be running bags for touring to help with the weight. the suspension for playing doesnt need to be "light" as the truck itself is fairly heavy. has heavy coils in it now, and works alright, all be it probably f@rked!

try the foa remote res shocks. they have a good rep now in the states and i got bumps a few weeks ago and they look awsome. very happy with the quality.

either that or kings, they seem to be cheaper most of the time than fox and i prefer them, but at 500ish a shock maybe not. foa remotes will set you back about half that roughly. then youll need to get them dynoed and tuned properly for your car. which s extra for both shocks. one thing though, i dont like the tuning of the foa's id prefer the king valving (which is interchangeable with FOAs)

also remember that you really dont want to top or bottom out the shocks as it damages them and they arent cheap to fix or replace.

500 is reasonable. Im not going to cut corners on shocks. they will be the most expensive part and most likely the most important choice i make. saw the foa coil overs but no shocks....links???

and in regards to kings or fox, what type, there are several!! from 400 to 1400 per corner!!! if not more.

I will be interested in you out come as this is a very similar setup to what I am looking at and for the same reasons.

I have currently been looking at 2" or 4" but was sticking to the 2" more for touring.

Any info you find of the shocks would be good as I am in the same boat with not knowing what to look for.

my set up was going to be 2" lift 1" body ( just to clear the sliders ).
