Hi mate
issues with the 3.0 were supposed to be sorted by late 02 that said there has been the odd 03 onwards engine go but im not sure why.
just check the service history to make sure it has been serviced correctly.
is it an auto or manual?
I have an 03 patrol auto with 270,000km on the clock and the only major has been an auto rebuild about 2000km ago.

thanks for the service manual reminder - i forgot that!
5 speed manual gear box.
the owner mentioned that the vehicle had been used to tow a boat a bit.
cheers

just check to make sure it stays in gear through the rev range and doesnt drop out.
if its being towing in 5th i guess theres a increased chance it may let go but im not on top of the manuals sorry.

maybe have a search on exploroz, theres been a few threads, you don't need to be a member to search there.
I won't tell you what i think about the zd30! I'm another td42 guy, but hey, your choice, hope it works out.

I've got a 2003 GU ST 3Litre Auto with 112k. No problems to date other then getting the idler arms bearings and bushes replaced. I tow a 2.4t boat and no problems to talk about.
I would do the normal stuff of look for underneath 4wd damage, look over the paintwork for offroad sctraches, oil leaks,
I think the price should be about 25-26k. I was looking at selling mine and thought i would only get 25k.
Good luck

Mate of mine on here (GU FUN) has a 04 3L diesel and it blew up on him, so the problems haven't been sorted. just luck of the draw with them
and the CRD 3L engine is not much better

Not a bad price for a 03 GU. I paid 10k more 3 years ago for mine. (It had never seen a dusty road
) Its now at 150k and still going strong.
As far a blowups are concerned. Most of them are avoidable.
A mate of mine has just killed his 2nd 3.0l
1st motor blew turbo (over 200k). Most motors will die when bits of metal enter. not just 3.0ls.
2nd motor died from over boost issues. (over 35psi) This problem is easily avoided for less than $100 with a dawes valve.

Just bought one. 04 model 109000ks for 23000 spent a lot of time looking. The car is neat but is standard other than snorkle, bull bar and spotties. Am going to put in a 4 inch lift. Have spoken with Shane from suspension stuff and will get the kit from him. Still deciding on 33s or 35s not sure how the 35s will go with the 3ltr. Cant fault the car and is fantastic on fuel. Only scare I had was the engine light came on and the car lost power. turns out this happens when water gets in the fuel filter which i drained and has been fine since. Good luck looking.
