Quick question - how much of the weight of a typical 10,000 to 12,000lb electric winch is the actual wire? Just wondering how much of a difference dyneema type stuff makes to the weight of the winch.
thanks

It has been discussed, but honestly, its quite a bit.. I picked up a rolled up old winch cable, which was a bastard. Then the plasma to go back onto mates, and it was nuts different.

also taking into consideration the roller fairlead and a hawse fairlead
about 15kgs in savings

don't forget the weight savings from using pop rivets instead of bolts to mount the fairlead

Anyone got 50m of wire off a highmount that they have replaced with Plasma or alike - i'm chasing wire for my new toy as i can't be stuffed cleaning the rope after each trip and am more worried about abrasion etc than weight savings...
Can anyone help?

good luck fitting 50M on the drum... i mean it can be done, but good luck, youll need a lengthened and smaller diameter drum for that. 30M is standard
