gq automatic kick down problems

Recently put in anither autoin my 89 GQ. Worked fine for a couple of weeks.
However recently after a 50km drive went to accelerate"kick down" and insteda of dropping a gear it drops 2 gears and revs in the red. This is when I'm usually in 'lock up' doing over the 80km mark.
It doesn;t do it all the time. Also recently when you start it for the first time, in most cases lock up doesn't engage, if after a 50km drive. To fix this all I did was switch the enige off and start again and it works like a treat, never missing a beat.
I am getting conflicting answers to this from the experts.
Inhibitor switch? or Throttle Sensor Switch?
On rare occasions when you start the vehicle, the orange power light flashings about 8 times to.
Has anyone encountered this? If you could shed some light would appreciate before I start replacing all the switches.
Also auto runs nice and cool and very smooth too. so its not a heating problem.
Regards, Rudi
