Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey Guys,

Last weekend my supercrap special 2hp air compressor packed it in (air comes out of the oil tank now) I was planning on getting a new one anyway cos ive just got a rattle gun and it struggled to run it for any period of time.. So looking at getting a fairly decent air compressor to last me a while.

Needs to eaisly run a big rattle gun etc and be 240v (15 amp is fine) budget is about $600 max.

What do people have?
Belt driven vs direct drive?
Is Mc Millan a good brand?

Any constructive input would be appreciated

anything good will have a 3hp motor, get you power supply checked for voltage drop. 3hp motors pull max amps and are prone to burning out with domestic power supply.

The lowwer the voltage the more current needed to run,
more current = more heat
more heat = more voltage drop
a vicious circle.

I would look at tradetools renegade 12cfm or similar. Belt drive for sure.

I have a 15CFM Cast iron V-twin compressor that is belt driven by a 2.5hp motor. Renegade series from Tradetools.
It is important if you are going to use it a LOT, to get a cast iron compressor as it can be rebuilt whereas aluminium ones (EG: Ingersoll Rand) cannot.
Looks like this but mine is a 2 cyl comp.

Has been over 12 years since I bought it and its still in great condition, never had a problem with it.

you wont get anything to keep up with a big rattle gun unless your going huge bitch compressor.
and if you can afford around the 8 or 9 hundred you would probably get something much better.

belt driven, look for one with the highest free air delivery.

and you can change the valve, or adjust them, to give more peak pressure, which is what your gonna want when using a rattle gun...
