patrol shocks

Has any one on here put the 4" patrol shock in the range rover? I'm looking at doing this in mine and am just wondering how it goes? Any pic on the top mount would be good

A 2" Patrol rear shock 660mm extended is plenty long enough for most or you could use 3" shocks at a push. 700mm extended.
A 4" shock will either be 700 or 730mm or maybe more which would be too long for just about everyone.
You have the pin to eye adapter on the bottom which gives you an extra 30mm + so you do lose compressed length and will have to raise bump stops.
If you can get the shocks for next to nothing then it definetly is worth doing if the shock was 700mm at the longest but if you have to pay for them then you are better off getting the shock with the correct ends.
Ride quality is fine running Patrol shocks.
We have Procomp shocks with up to 750mm extended with the correct ends for the Rangie which should be more then enough.
We also have Boss adjustable shocks with the correct ends for a Rangie in lengths up to 800mm now and 1metre in the new year. These shocks are what I would really recommend.
The pin to eye adapter is basically a bolt welded to a U bracket with a bolt going through it to take the other shock. If someone hasn't got a pick happening in a couple of days I will take a pic for you.

I went down that path, but it worked out so much easier to get the procomp shocks from Shane. Straight forward install with maximum articulation without compromising compressed length.

hey shane the adaptor is + 50mm (isn't it?). what springs will you run, i have 2" springs and + 2" patrol shocks (given that fender back is same as rangie? can't remember) and i bottom out shocks on up travel - but getting some new shock mounts made soon 2 counteract this and regain full uptravel

i'll be running 2" lifted springs, new top mounts and disconnects. just found out i need to make up some different disconnects as i'll be running some poly bags in the rear as well.

any pics of the new top shock mounts? extended by how much? if you drop the top mounts you need alot shorter shocks or big bump stops?
disconnects? u running sway bars? or u talking relocation cones?

i'll be doing the top mounts when i have the shocks. just have to part out the old project 1st before i get the shocks. top mounts will only be 25-50 mm higher. will have the shock on more of a angle so when the diff moves the shock will move slower then std
it will be relocation cones no sway bars but have poly bags as well i want to run. the normal cones wont work with the bags.

thought so, was confused with the disconnect bit. i will be doing the same in rear, 90's are the same size dia. coil in the rear as a rangie. just gotta get around to sorting shock mounts and polyair position and bottom/top plates for them.

i'll be making longer mounts for the shocks. you have confused me, why are you making them shorter?
the bump stop spacers are because the compressed shock will be a bit bigger than when the bumpstops start working unless i can get the top mount up enough to not need the spacers then i'll have the same up travle and heaps more drop.
disconnects will have to go on the outside of the spring. every one i find is on the inside won't work with the polys.
front is looking harder as i'll have to make up some thing the keep the springs seated the whole time. it will have new towers in the front as well.
my aim is the have a low car with 50-80 mm up travel and heaps of drop.

I have a set of fully adjustable Kone GQ rears and 80 series fronts (both heaps longer than RR standard). They were fully rebuilt by Leslies with Range Rover valving and customised to bolt straight into a range rover or discovery with no mods required.
They are currently sitting in my shed having come off my exs old disco after about 9 months of on road travel and have always had the internal bump stops fitted to prevent overcompression damage. They have been waiting for my much anticipated "shed clearout" post on outerlimits. (Havent got around to it yet) They owe me nearly a grand but sensible offers considered...Trust me they wont disappoint!
I also have the front shock tower spacers if your setup needs them!

just make sure you check and double check clearance for the tyre when it stuffs into the wheel well.
all in all it's good to see people rasing their shock mounts.

this is the setup i run in the rear of my county, i beleive these procomp shocks are 32in at full extension with 14 odd in of travel.
The uppoer mount was folded up by a friend using 12mm plate, i mounted the shock pins directly into the plate, they have 2 holes setup for use, one spaces it up 2-3in the other 4-5in, i am using the upper hole as the shock nearly hit full compression on that one still, the pin is not angled at all, it just sits horizontally. for the lower mount i am using a pin to eye convertor, you can see it in place in one shot, its just sitting in the hole not the wy i mounted it, i have actualy spaced it up a little on one side so it sits more vertical. I checked out the angles on the eyes, as it sits at the moment it works out very well at both full drop and tuck, im limited by my a-frame at the moment, if i could free it up i could get a further 1-2in out of the shock before its at full drop..
now if only i could get my front end flexing just as well!!

had a look at mickas rangie today and didn't realise that the rangie body comes out further then the defender/county body, on fenders tyre clearance isn't an issue but i can see it would on rangies.
no point dropping your shock mounts IF you are going to loose full compression i think.
Qserv nice simple mounts, do you have any bracing on the internal side of the bend? (i know its 12mm plate, but the folds may fatigue with time/hard use? but i'm far from any engineer)

I'm not sure what you're running on the front, though if you're running Patrol rears at the front, you can also pick up D2 turrets pretty cheap whic use an eye rather than a pin.

I'm not sure what the Defenders are, though the D2 is 10" from where it bolts to the spring perch up to the centre of the bolt.

I got D2 turrets (for free) to fit my new Bilsteins "eyed" 7100s,
but I still miss a couple of bits so they're sitting there doing nothing!
