Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I know this has been done before, but a search returned too many results to sort through.

The patrol is going into the panel shop to get a dint fixed and my bar is in need of a touch up. Panel beater has quoted me a pretty decent price to get the bar done in 2 pack enamel.

Would this be a good option for a bull bar? I have sprayed it myself with a black spray can of matt black before and it has come up well.

2k is the best as it will shine off the gun, its only cheap dont know why he is quoting a lot....what is the quote?


In my opinion powder coating is way better and cheap too, but 2k is not bad until you scratch it.

$200 to respray the bar in black 2 pack enamel. I think you may have mis read my post, I said he has given me a decent price.

If I did it myself with rattle cans I would be looking at least $100 worth of paint / primer and a days worth of work removing and refitting the bar.

That's what I was thinking 2 pack would chip and scrtach a lot easier.

Your right lol I did miss read it, had a big night at the pub last night, I paid $50 for sand blasting and $50 for powder coating here in dandenong, still great after more than 2 years and countless bashings....$200.00 is a bit steep for a bullbar though...I charge around that for a clear over base colour on a full bar not a bullbar which is just black single stage.

I've got a bar that I'd like to sandblast and re powdercoat too. Let me know where from guys. Post up details.

I was once told by a steel worker (no jokes required thanks) that powder coating will last lots longer if you have the steel electroplated first, but $$$$$$$.

It would probably be cheaper to buy a brand spaning new bar that get it electroplated and powder coated.

I'm pretty sure ARB charge about $300 to repaint a bull bar, however they also charge the rack rate to remove and refit which is where it gets expensive. Short of sitting in their driveway with your socket set and removing it yourself, what other option have you got if you go down that route?

I'm thinking I will take my winch, driving lights and UHF ariel mount off before it goes into the panel beaters in early Janto get the 1/4 panel fixed. I trust myself a lot more than them to put it all back together properly.

There are quite a few newish powders available, some that mimic a metallic finish, and others that look like hammertone - They cost a bit more, but look awesome.

also - electroplating isnt that expensive... bars arent that big, so theyll fit in most tanks no worries. just need to get it sandblasted, and give it a good acid bath soaking before plating... i was going to get my chassis done on the zuk by a mate (freebie), he'd normally estimate $800 to do a whole chassis completely plated - so a bar wouldnt cost much at all - they could probably squeeze it in with another run anyway.

I just painted mine with killrust epoxy resin. It comes in a spray can and is a really tough finish. cost about $14 a can and took 2 cans to do a couple of coats, no primer required.

I use Metal Armour on my bar work. The cans are $15-$18 each, come in around twenty colours and finishes. No priming needed, just give it a wip down with wax and grease remover after you wash it.

The only catch is that the paint takes quite a while to dry properly. The last bullbar i did i spaced out the painting process over two weeks to be sure, to be sure.

If the bar is powder coated already, it'll be cheaper to buy a new bar - powder is a bitch to blast and takes for ever so unless you know someone in the game it may not be cost effective...
