Has any one converted an air conditioning compressor and converted it into a compressed iar compressor for lockers and tyres etc.????

Ive been doing some light research and figured u could just make a bracket and get it on the motor, then change the fittings and run air hose from it insted of air con pipes????

Then put it on a switch if ya want the air etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this??

cheers,

Screwy

Though none of these really help explain wat u would do and how u would go about converting it.
I wanted to convert a standard MQ L28 Air con pump to and air compressor and was wondering wat was involved??

The seals in a normal a/c compressor are lubricated by the refrigerant, so when you start pumping air only the normal seals don't last long.
Could be wrong, but I thought endless air put special seals in the compressors which can survive without lubrication.

I don't have room under the bonnet to add another a/c compressor (not without some significant re-routing of stuff already in there  ) so it's not something I've looked into too far. A colleague is looking into it for his 60 series, and was planning the route which somebody described in one of the links, with the oil separator on the outlet, plumbed to feed the separated oil back into the inlet.

Its actually the bearings that are lubricated by the oil. Not exactly sure what mods Endless Air are doing to Rotary pumps to stop them from seizing but a piston style pump like a York or TOYODA are easily modified and will outlast any rotory pump. And no oil seperator is needed as the pump can be modified to have a seperate sump.
