Hi i have a sharp rapping/clattering sound in the motor I am unsure what it is the book says it could be crankshaft endfloat if this is the case can i change all the bearings and thrust washers while the motor is still in the car ?
I know these motors can be noisey is this just a standard sound ? dosent blow smoke at all
Thanks

Does the sound lessen when it warms up?If so the tappets may need adjustment.Certainly a noise the 2H is known to have.I unfortunately sit be side a 2H in my truck,so tend to hear the motor noise just a bit.

if its crank shaft end float it will be worse when you put your foot on the clutch

check tappits they are prone to wear case hardening where they push on top of the valve and end up with a hole in them, makes it very hard to set gap.

Thanks guys
will the tappets sound like a petrol motor or is it different on a diesel because it dosent sound like the same as my old magna and those tappets were shit
I have to get a dial gauge to check the endfloat so i will know for sure
i might do a vid on you tube tommorrow night if i find the time and then you can hear it for yourself
I will try the clutch method and will it get worse from reving it ?if it is end float ?
also what damage can endfloat on a 2h cause ?
Cheers Mick

excessive end float = rebuild

Diesel motors due to there higher running temperature have greater tappet clearance to start with.So on start up can sound quite rattly till they warm up a bit.To still sound rattly after warming up means time for adjustment.

okay i borrowed my dads mechanics stethescope ? spelling
The noise was coming from the 2 injector i tried everywhere else on the motor and that was where the noise was coming from
so could it be the injectors making the noise if so whats the best thing to do now ?

That's a big step to go from an engine noise to jump straight to end float.

Crack the injector line and see if the noise goes away.

I wouldn't say piss out everywhere. But yes, come Diesel will jump out. Nothing to worry about.
