Having heard about the new production class winch trucks, I was wondering what car people would choose and why?

I would choose a GQ shorty, diesel and Manual. Only because thats all Ive ever had

Vitara SWB

I doubt any prod car will drive the hard stuff like whats often seen with the big boys, so I'm not sure how much difference there will be in real terms between the vehicles, but the Vit is stable and will be really light on the winch for faster winching times.

Lockers are ok, 2-3" lift I think it was with standard suspension configuration, HD axles but basically as you bought it. Tyres have to be original size to a max of 33's (mind you the rules just say that the tyre needs to fit within 840x350@24psi). Winch to be stock, but you can fit the manufacturers biggest motor, Warn highmounts can go to HD brake shafts, fit a cage + harness and go racing.

No PTO allowed - otherwise it would be on an auto tranny.

Ive been thinking about this question myself of late, what i have come up with that i think would be best so far is-
80series with a 4.5ltr petrol cut down to a ute (body mods including cut down to ute aslong it is mod plated) would be the best option.

My decision of the 80 series came down to i think the 4.5 petrol engine would be the strongest and most powerfull standard engine.

On another note there is the jeep wrangler....

3" lift and 33" makes a pretty capable jeep. Through in f&r lockers and ratio's and work the ring out of the 4L. 1600kg ish maybe less,it will hammer and have decent travel.

It will not be a cheap build though and will break alot, but it depends on what the rules let you change.

jeeps are not that expensive to build they are about the same as a patrol to build up only time they are expensive is when you need genuine parts

Does not sound very "standard" to me, lockers, lift, HD axles, oversized tyres, modified winch

Why not have a comp for off-the-showroom fourbies? (cage excepted obviously)

I agree. Buy it, put a winch, cage, harness and any streetable tyre on it thats the same size on factory rims and run it. No other mods. There is stuff in there that I question, but its not my comp and its not my call. It still should be really good though.

Because it would be boring as batshit and the cars would be destroyed after one round.
