drive thru a few deep mud puddles, that normally get rid of rear brakes

Try loosening the handbrake cable right off, it may be over-tight.
Has it just started or has it just gotten progressively worse? Have the shoes been replaced recently?

Are the brakes that are dragging drums? (sorry, don't know vits) If so, clean them out and adjust them and see if that helps.

i brought new shoes and tried to fit them but the hub wound barley fit over them no matter the adjustment, to make the hub fit over i had to tighten the bolts to force it over. so i put the old ones back on and there working fine... very strange......

Wrong size shoes?? Did you put them side by side before you fitted them? Usually a quick visual check will tell you if they are wrong or not

looked exactly the same to me. one of them was 1-2 mm wider than the rest. would that make a difference?

Could do. How badly are the drums scored/lipped?

seems odd that it only locks up after you put the handbrake on, other wise its fine, yes? So it has to be something to do with the handbrake system.
try loosing the handbrake cable a bit, actually when was the last time it was replaced? couldnt hurt to smash a new one in there.

all fixed!!
i throw a new cable in there.. working even better
it looks like there was no grease where the shoes tough that back plate either. i reken that would have helped a bit.
thanks for everyones help
