Driving to work on monday, and my gearbox all of a sudden started to make a really horrible clicky noise in everything other than 4th! Thought I had killed a bearing until i opened it up this evening and found this.

Box had done 95000kms, 5000 in this truck.

Now- I rang a wreckers last week, and i can get another R151F from a prado 3.0TD thats done 125,000kms for $1100.

But considering ive already killed one R151F, Does anyone know if the R150F is a stronger box? Or will the six speed from behind the new D4D prado's bolt up to my bell housing and 5000km old clutch?

The R box is an ok box, they suffer in landcruisers weighing 3T and turbod....they will probably die in yours too if you give it stick...contact treebruiser who has a few r151's from 100 serieses...

There is no real strength difference between the R150 and R151, just a 1st gear ratio difference. You mite have just got unlucky with the condition of urs, there r quite a few people gettin around with V8's and big rubber which have no trouble with them. Plus the low lux and street car blokes which put 500HP+ thru them on slicks.

U shouldnt have any dramas with it behind the 1KZ seeing as it is the factory box. the new 6spd isnt an R series so I doubt it will bolt up easily. I wouldnt be paying much more then $600 for an R151f.

I bought a surf with a blown engine for my r151f, sold the rest of the parts and came out $500 in the profit, only thing is finding the time and space.

picked up an R150F today that had done 110,000kms for $1250- its in really good condition too- Plus its from a lux, so the higher first gear is probably a lot easier to drive on the road- Ie i can USE first on road.
