LN46 diesel what is compatible?..
Hi all,
I have an LN46 L diesel that is a bit sad and before I rebuild it I would
like to know my options. From what I can gather I can replace it with a 2L.
Will this give me a bit more grunt? Are there other options of the bolt straight in kind? Would be wrapped with any help.

Do you have a 4 speed or 5 speed gearbox? 2L motors I am 90% certain only ever came with the 5 speed box. Sayign that, I am not sure if the bell housing'son the 2 boxes are the same or not.
You will also need to look at the ignition system, as the 2L motor uses a different glow plug system then the L motor, called super glow instead of variable delay.
Other then that, I believe you should not have much of a problem.

My hilux has a 2L (2.4) deisel. I did not do the conversion it was like that when we bought it. From the looks of it it still has the 4 speed box with a 5th speed added (thats what my bro reckons anyway). It looks like it goes straight in without 2 much trouble but i wouldnt know.
So all i can say is that mine has it and it CAN be done

you can bolt in a 2L, 2L-T, 2L, or 5L, will bolt to existing 4 speed or 5 speed. the early engine bays with the L motor are shorter and you will have to modify the front of the engine back to a single belt for the alt/water pump, and possibly make fan mods, or it will not all fit behind the radiator.
you won't notice a lot of extra power between the 2.2 and the 2.4 but of you turbo up the 2.4 you'll like it.
Mine had a 2.2 in it, which at 170 clicks we replaced it with a fully reco'ed 2.4. Definately a noticeable difference in power, but a turbo sure would be nice. Looking at a cheap kit off a surf which shouldn't be too much hassle and give a nice power increase!! Probably a cheap way to go if u cant find a turboed engine

You will not have to modify the front of a 2L engine to fit in a early engine bay, no radiator mods either, 2.2L to 2.4L is a noticeable difference, though turbo would be nice

your mileage may vary. I've done it twice, and twice I've had to ditch the double belt setup and/or mode the fan to make it fit. if it just drops in, so much the better, but even if you have to fiddle a bit, it's not rocket science.

Mines got 3 belts. Two for alternator and one for crossover ster and no probs at all. The fan is a bit close, bout 1 - 1.5 cm away from radiator and it has gone though twice. If i had pics i would put them up. I dont see how you would have 2 do that???? But i didnt do it .
