Can anyone tell me if the front and rear diff centres of a 89 sierra are the same. If they are the same can the front be used in the rear as my rear diff is shagged and I have a spare front diff

They are the same ratio gears (3.7:1) but the side gears inside the centre are 26 spline rear and 22 spline front...
89 fronts are mostly 2 pinion whereas rears are 4 pinion.

you can pull the side gears out of your rear diff and put them in your front. Means that you have a 2 pin rear centre, not as strong but seen it done heaps

Interesting...

wasn't aware of a difference, mines a late 89 and i believe they are the same... have had fronts fitted to my rear before, not that i did the job so unsure of mods required.

NT sierras have 4 pin front and rear.

Early WT (plastic flares) have 4 pin front and rear.

Steel flare WT have 2 pin front.
