no more than 1/2 with thermos.

Usually with clutch fan I found it sits about 1/3, on hot days just under 1/2.
Don't expect to see my recipe, until I receive my cheque and collection fee

On the highway on a cool day most vehicles should sit around the thermostat temp, this depends on vehicle weight and cooling system efficiency and alike. Normal can be from 86 to 105 degrees depeding on a multitude of things, the main thing is that the cooling system stay in control and remain pressurized without boiling. Nissan gauges do vary, my Patrols, of which I have had 3 sit between 1/3 and 1/2 but can go up to 2/3 if working really hard in hot weather.
