GU2.8

Post by stevespatrol »

i pulled my 2.8td harmonic balancer off the other day and found that the key and the harmonic balancer were worn, not badly tho.
Replaced the key a bargain at $2.40 but a different story for the balancer,
$511 what a rip off but will replace it after christmas, better than paying upto $3,000 for the crank to be remachined after the key has been spun on the crank.
Also got a price on a new oil pump $625.
Nissan sure does know how to get you where it hurts.
Enjoy christmas everyone.

hope you are buying a new retaining bolt for it. the key is usually the last part to fail.

make sure you loctite the crankshaft bolt in place as they come loose. This happened to me about a month ago and stuffed the key and balancer. Got away with minimal damage to the crank luckily. Could have been a lot worse. The thing hadnt been touched in 85,000 kms when the timing belt was done so just goes to show it can come loose at any time. I have heard of many of these coming loose on others.
