Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Can anyone recomend a place to get a 75 series cab media blasted.
Used to be sand blasting but I think soda is popular now.
Any idea on cost?

You could look at other solutions like uhp water blasting ( 30000psi), dry ice blasting, wet sand blasting attachments for your gerni

UHP water balsting leaves absolutly no residue in the paint surface. Fantastic way to clean BUT doesn't leave the surface with the required grade of prep work for the paint to grab too.

Dry ice blasting is great too as there is no residue to clean up apart from the paint.

Wet sand blasting attachments for a gerni and you can do the job at home very easily. JUST DO NOT USE ANYTHING CONTAINING SILICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Silica is bad for your lungs, so use garnet, it is cheap and can be reused when dried. 3000psi wet sand blaster and you are going to rip aything of.

soda blast qld, and i cant remember the name of the other.
while it is good, it costs more if there is bog in the car, because the soda struggles to blast it off and it takes alot more soda and time to do it.
also doesnt touch rust.

but the good thing is, it wont damage chrome or rubber or glass or anything else, basically you can leave the car intact.

from memory its around 1500 for the outside of a car.

i paid about 800 i think for underside of bonnet, underside of boot, all around the doors on a 4 door, on the car and the door.

basically all the fiddly shit you cant sand.

i can get their numbers if you like, if not, im sure they are in yellowpages...

If anyone else was considering it as an option, it looks like soda blasting will cost around $1500 - $1800 in total for a 75 series cab including all panels.
Individual panels cost: Guards $150 ea, Bonet $200 etc etc.

I wouldnt use soda. You will get a white powdery residue that comes out of the joins in the panels for years .

A lot of panel shops in sydney wont touch cars that have been soda blasted.

Go for a place thats uses garnet.

And try to prepare it yourself by blocking any holes that go into the siles/vents and places you cant get to .

You can also rent machines for the day and do it yourself.

Someone was doing a buildup on a commodore i think, maybe not on this forum, but they unbolted and stripped the whole car ready for blasting, then spread a massive tarp out on theyre driveway, parked the car on it, then put lots of sand into the hired machine from a pile they already had sitting on theyre lawn, and proceded to blast away at the panels. When they ran out of sand in theyre pile, they swept it up off the tarp and fed it back in.
Anyway they specifically said they rented it, not sure from where.

Soda is water soluable but it get into every little crack/seams etc.

I repair blast gear for a livin and the company i work for hires sandblast gear and the full set up (pot/helmet and all the hoses) is about $140 per day but you will need about 180 cfm of air to run it properly.

We do have a branch is brissy but not sure what they have in the way of hire gear.

If you use a water/grit blaster you should use an inhibiter in the water.

Oh yeh, dai-hard reminded me, they also hired an industrial compressor that could keep up with the blaster.
