Having recently taken the top off my 40 series and just went on a long trip without a top, which was cool but I was thinking of making up a windjammer to stop the wind messing up the back of my hair, (just kidding I have no hair) :D but I think it will make long drives more comfortable like the ones seen on some jeeps.

Are the Bestop (and / or other producers) ones that are made for Wranglers waterproof when used in conjunction with a bikini top and the factory door surrounds?

More like water resistant

They dont seal where the top meets or around the doors but will keep a light shower out and if you are moving then even a heavy storm you dont get that wet

Try the bestop halftop or the california tops for a water proof version it is all one piece in these tops

I'm running the windjammer at the moment and it's really quite amazing how effective it is - with a bikini & windows up, you still get that biting wind on the back of yer head/neck/arms. But with the jammer on, it's just like driving with a full top on. Even with the roof off (as seen below) you still hardly get any wind in the cab!!! They REALLY work! :D

what advantages do you get with these windjammer setups as opposed to a full roof? i understand that opposed to no roof it eliminates wind circulating from the back to the front, but why not just have the full roof? in my sierra i go roofless and no doors or half doors, as often as i can.

There are several reasons but i guess the main advantage is for a different look. I have it because it's easier to take off and put on than the full top and causes less wear on the full top.

That looks good. You should be able to get someone to make up something like that pretty cheap. There a dude in Logan tht specialises in tonneaus, tops etc. Made to order.
