Hilux turbo kit in Canada from Malaysia?

Hi all,

I've had a 92 Hilux up here in Canada for almost 2 years now. A few other owners have been adding turbos to their 3L with some good improvements. They have mostly been customizing a tubo and parts from a 2L, and making it work on the 3L.

I don't have the facilities nor knowledge to take on this task myself. We have a Japanese import shop in Vancouver that specialize in Right hand drive. http://www.ateb.ca I have talked to them about a turbo kit, they have put a couple kits on other hiluxes. they purchased the kit from Malaysia, does anybody have any info on a possible kit from malaysia?

Money is a bit of an issue, they quoted me $3000 fitted. they do have lots of turbo diesel experience.

will I notice a difference if I was to just upgrade the exhaust and intake?

I'm worried about shortening the life of the engine by fitting the turbo. (truck has 134,000 kms)

thanks

here is a photo of my rig

There is a great thread on here at the moment regarding 1HZ turbo and answers a lot of your questions, in regard to the 1HZ engine, which is a toyota 6cyl.

Check it out.

Turbo will be worthwhile though!!

Yeah mate, night shift sorry about that. I meant it answers his questions on turbos but its about a 1HZ, but who cares, its answering all his questions on turboing of an old motor, and performance, and whether its worthwhile.

It can work out cheaper getting the turbo off the surf, but have a read, he is in Canada!

Thanks for the link, there are some good answers to my questions.

I'd like to save money by going the Surf turbo route. but there aren't that many here, so finding parts from a wrecker would be very rare. The guys who have done it from here shipped the parts from a wrecker in the UK. Shipping from Aus. is way more expensive. (not being able to personally inspect parts is a huge disadvantage).

This kit from Malaysia and the Safari kit seem to be the only kits available here.

Check ebay and second hand options.

You only really need and exhaust manifold and turbo, the rest you can make yourself quite easily!

I e-mailed Denco, and AXT to ask about shipping. Denco quoted me $2400 without the exhaust, and will get back to me soon on exporting and shipping costs. from my reading here so far, Denco seems to be the superior product.

MTQ Engine Systems is one of the best in the australia. the MTQ turbo kit is sold as DTS. check them out. I know a few blokes who have them fitted and they realy are very good and they are a bit cheaper than the others.

You an find them here is Canada too, I just found one on BC4x4 complete, stripped of a Surf. Paid $500 for it.
Post up a wanted thread there, you might get lucky.
I bought it for the same truck as the one you have.
