Leaking diff seals, temporary fix = HTB grease = ok?

Serious question,
With leaking front diff seals on a GQ, (so mostly driving on 2wd)
Has anyone tried ploping a (fair)bit of grease into the pumpkin as a temp fix?
Why/Why not isn't it a good idea?
Would there be an excess build up of heat/stress? Loss of power?
It is a lubricant, thats the main thing.
Thanks for the help.

Are you meant to use special tools for the axle seals?
Or can you get away without?
I tried it without and had both leak within a couple of months...

no special tools needed.
It will be your inner axle seal
Chance that the seal area on the axle is stuffed.
Put in new inner axle seal, some extra grease in the swivel housing and wash the swivels with a pressure washer.
DONT put grease in the diff, it wont do anything

You could buy "speedy sleeves" to go onto your axle over the area where the seal sits. Sounds like the axle shaft has a groove worn in it. The "speedy sleeves" will cost about $40 each maybe.
You will have to take the cv off the axle to put these on. They come with a tool to put them on with then you cut off the flange from the speedy sleeve with a small cole chissel and a pair of pliers.
You can pick them up from your local bearing supplier with the seals aswell. Take the axle to them to get the correct ones.
Thats what I would do.
My two Cents.

why do you have to take the cv off?
U know there is another end on the axle yeah ?

If the seals leaked so soon I would say you distorted the seals on install or your front housing is bent.
Gq will be undriven front in 2wd so very uncommon to wear a groove in the seal face.
Y not grease? cause it will run out of the pinion bearing and bearing will fail. If your going to strip the housing down that far fit a full hub kit.

could also have the swivel hub not setup properly with the king pin shims.

moreys usually works a treat, as long as you dont do alot of high speed 4wd it should be fine.

if you mix some oil in with your grease to, so your grease turns to a thick liquid it would work, that way it still flows like oil so you still lubricate all your bearings properly but is still thick enough that it wont leak past seals as quick.

Cool thanks, thats sort of a happy medium then.
I might try that until motivation gets me going to do the real thing
