What is item #16 on the diagram?

Anyway it will be very easy, there are only three wires on the alternator and one is obviously the main power wire. The other two are the warning lamp and the voltage sense.

So as you can see you can pick up two of the wires at the battery, and the third one is the one that goes via the warning lamp. If #15 is the warning lamp for the alternator then it looks like you will be deleting items #16 and #18 and taking the Y or Y/G wire from the warning lamp direct to the alternator. Hence asking what item #16 is.

Thanks for the reply. 16 is the charging lamp relay for the lamp 20 on the 70 series. The diagram below has the 70 stuff removed.Cheers

I still have a problem. There are only 2 wires coming from the replacement alternator(plus the main one to battery of course) so I am not sure what I need to do to connect it.

Chimp boys bosch pic is very self explanetary. I have done a similar conversion as you have done to a 4runner so about the same.

the alt i used had only the charge light wire then a wire straight to the battery.

Unplug your external regulator, find the charge light wire and hook it up to alt and run a new cable straight from alt to battery.

Simple once you can find the charge light wire which is well highlighted in your diagrams.

looks about perfect though otherwise

Can't be fully sure but I agree with Pongo, it looks like the Y/BY wire told the old system that the ignition was on or something, or maybe was for starting... dunno. But the new system doesn't need that, it picks it up through the charge lamp.

Piece of piss then, get into it and follow the diagram on the bottom of the pic chimp boy put up, wire in the alt light and just unplug the external reg and your away.

ATM im in the process of putting 2nd alt on my new patrol. easy as crap on its mounted. keep cooking the dewalt drill

Just btw, if you go looking for one of these at a pick-a-part type of wrecker, grab the cleanest one you can see AND have a look for any that have got good long brushes in them; the brush pack is separate. I have bought a few of these and usually I grab the best body I can find and the best brushes I can find and put them together to make the one I want to pay for :)
