we changed the timing chain the other day on my hilux as it had jumped a tooth. the timing is set to 8 degress also and mine runs shit on idle but runs well high up in the revs. we made sure that all the vacume lines were correctly put back. so i have no idea sorry

yeah mine runs great to, but when you let it return to idle, it dies, and all my vaccume lines are accounted for, just maybe not all in right place!! could it be that a jet in the carby is blocked????

Did you plug the fuel shut off soliniod back in (the wires to the carby)or it may be faulty
Otherwise the carby idle circuit may be blocked (jet or small hole)
some thing may have dislodged while the carby was off upsidedown or on its side etc.
