my 86 dual cab had no recovery hooks at all when i got it, front or rear. ive got some now and want to ask a question before i fit the front ones.

where the std tow hook mounts to the front of the chassis rail (between the bash plate and front drop hanger), i noticed 2 holes for mounting the hook at the front of the chassis rail and another 2 holes about 6-8 inches further back along the chassis rail.

can i use either set of holes on chassis rail to mount recovery hooks??

if i use the front set of holes, the hook sits too far forward.
if i use the other set of holes, will the hook interfere with the leaf springs?

does anyone know

thanks

i have an 87 4runner so its likely to be the same, the left hand of the trangluar braces between the front crossmember and chassis rails has a hook mounted using those 2 bolts. its right up the front so its pretty easy to find. sorry im not that fluent with the right terms i hope ive explained it well enough for you to understand. Good luck mate

I'm putting some tow hooks on the hilux and I was going to mount them to the front as decribed above. What I want to know is what size bolt do I use? it looks like a M12 with 1.25 pitch. any help is appreciated

go to a bolt specialist you want to use hitensile bolts. cant remember the size but i think its what you said. take 1 from the shop, try it and if it fits then buy 2.
done and done.

Did that yesterday, The old man sells bolts, and becuase the threads are full of dirt and shite it is hard to find what they are. So I have to use a tap to clean the threads out and was hoping to find out the size so I know which size Tap to use
