In my quest for "Bargains", I've been looking here and there for bargain price parts for my 4b. It got me to thinking who else does this or do most just pay the asking price at 4x4 specialists? The Poll is just to give me an idea of what people in the real world do.

many a day has been spend at pickn payless pulling bits of cars etc for my 4b or driving round to all the diff wreckers to get parts,

if only most places would let you into the yards to get the bits yourself,
damn public liability

I'm happy to buy most things from wreckers but have a few issues with it:

1. most treat me like i'm a clueless fool* (which isn't far from the truth) when i tell them what i am after, and only after explaining for 10 minutes what my car is can they tell me that they don't have what i am after. :?

2. wreckers are trying to make money - they have costs etc that they have to cover and so parts are expensive. I prefer to find mates that have the part i need and buy from them.

* - this point stands true for most shops selling car stuff though - most of the time i just give up and let them rant on for a while, say my thank you's and then hang up :?

Yeah i have found it a major setback with parts places and wreckers, when trying to buy stuff , they treat you like you dont know jack, when you try to explain what your trying to do etc, they just dont understand put you in the 2 hard basket and move on.

Including seat belts and brakes. There a couple of yards here where you " remove the bits " yourself. Good value and cheaper.

I was quoted $550 for a bent ARB bar once. When I say bent, I mean George Michael...

was quoted almost new price on a grill...

But then that was always at a "4x4' wrecker.. when I went to pickapart, they sold me shit loads of goodies for $20, and then a Sanden 502 Compressor for endless air system for $40 complete with hoses...

Pick-a-part is cool, I have scored heaps of stuff there I'd buy anything I can accurately judge the condition of.

Except wifes, the last 3 I picked up were bargains but made horrible noises when I didn't do the dishes.

You can pick up a second hand head gasket from most wreckers for $0 - $2.50.

How can you go wrong
