I think most of it will just bolt straight up but you may run into trouble with drivelines because the 5 speed is a little longer ( I think)

3.75" longer overall from memory, need longer front shaft and shorter rear shaft.

You will have to do something with the handbrake too.

Yep, transfer handbrake won't fit onto the back of the 60 transfer case. I went with 60 rear drum setup with handbrake mechanism and made a cable for it.

Thanks all for the input

the 47 striped at the moment so how hard would it be to change
the rear drums to 60s drums ??

depending on what size idler shaft your 60 series transfer case has, the handbrake mechanism from your 47 may fit on it. if not, just use the whole 47 transfer case, if it is a 47 it should have a split transfer case like the 60. also a lot of 47's have the 4 bolt backing plates on axle housing, if not you need to get a late model housing to put the handbrake backing plates on.

The other issue with putting a 5 speed in is there is a tube style cross member welded in behind the gear box that probably wont clear the handbrake on the transfer case. needs to be cut out and welded. either way it is a bit of a job, but well worth it in the long run....

My FJ45 troop used to scream with a 4 speed, and the fuel bill was horrendous!!

there is bugger all room behind the transfer when you fit the 5sp as the pick shows you, you could run a rear drum style handbrake better if the brakes fail propshaft ones dont like being riperd up when movin you will need to modify your transmission cover plate as the gear levers are about 4inches back. my honest opinion would be to stay away from the 60 series box to stay away from the vacume opperated side of things i used a same year 75s box all manual. they look good when you give em new bearings and a lick of paint to

Not all 60's had vacuum operated transfers.

Hmmm

Seems like i got a long road ahead of me yet
will be worth it when im done
my 5 speed dosen't have a vacc transfer luckey enough
the 47 was made on the 8/1984 so im hopeing it has a 4 bolt axle housing
i will check it when i get home on the weekend

Thanks All

If it is all original it will have the 4 bolt rear housing, and will have the split transfer case.

The H55F (5 speed) box has a bearing on the main shaft at the rear that needs a recess in the transfer case to sit in. The early four speed t/cases dont have this recess. I have been told that many 47 series cruisers have the 5 speed intermediate plate/5speed t/case.

I have a vacc transfer case in my 60, converted it back to lever operated, quite easy to do.
