cable for winch

i need some 50mm battery cable to run my high mount winch of.
iv been quoted $26 a meter which i expected does anybody no where else u can buy this stuff from and if would be dearer or cheaper? cheers

and 26 bucks a meter is bullshhit.
I paid $15 a meter for 95mm2 cash no receipt last october at the height of the commodities boom so that should give you an idea of their buy in price.

well got my cable this week 50mm2 15 bucks a meter +gst from b.o.c
not as cheap but i think that'ld be plenty to run my winch.

im not very understanding on cable size. what is the diametre of 50mm2 cable?

About 8mm diameter of solid copper (working backwards mathematically), with airspaces in the copper wire probably 10mm dia or so of braided copper wire. This obviously does not include the thickness of the plastic/rubber insulation.

ok thank you. what about jumper lead as winch wire. can get some cheap ones thats look beefy?

Welding cable would be better, better insulation.
Jumper leads only have to carry a few hundred amps for a few seconds and therefore don't heat up that much. A decent 20-30 minute winch will cause some heat build up in the cables.
I wouldn't be scummy with the insulation and isolation/retention of the cables, could get real ugly real quick (under-bonnet fire, short to earth on your battery, etc).
