There's a difference between fitting in and being comfortable. Jump in a normal Sierra and position the seat about 1/2 way forward. That's it, they have no adjustment in the utes.

mate iam 6ft 4" and have 2 stockman utes, they are bearable for a day 4x4ing. I recently went for an 8hr trip from perth to noresman it sucked, i thought i was going to die. If your only going to be in it for a couple of hours at a time its ok. Whe im a passenger i take out the shelf under the glovebox to stretch out a bit more. There is heaps more leg room in the drivers seat than the passengers.

I'm 5 foot 8. I need to have the seat forward to drive my maruti ute.
My mate who is 6'2" loves the legroom in it when he drives.

I jump in a mates standard stockman ute and it feels like my knees around my ears. It varies car to car.

I am 6'4" and had a ute and fit with no dramas. It isn't the actual overall height that seems to be the problem its if you have very long legs or a longish body and shorterish legs that causes dramas.

I prefered the upright seating position and my legs fitted in comfortably under the steering wheel with no dramas. Yet my brother who is about 6'2" couldn't fit as his legs hit the steering wheel.

Best bet is to be try and see how you go

In a Maruti you would be fine, in a tintop ute you may/will struggle to get comfortable

A day 4x4ing is totally different to a day travelling as well, on the tracks you are constantly moving around in the vehicle and getting out, travelling you sit in one position and don't move anywhere near as much.

so...if i moved the tray back, cut the rear of the cab off, welded up some steel to extend the cab....would i have to get that engineered?
or can you still buy the maruti fibreglass rear sections from somewhere? or reproductions?
is there any mob on the gold coast who do work like that?

you'd be crazy cutting up a stockman cab they are rare as hens teeth.

maruti sounds like the option for you.

There is extended cab f/glass tops in Indonesia, never seen them here.
I'm 6ft and a bit. I like to be upright for visibility and back protection.
I like my arms close to steering wheel.
I drive with my legs open.
Its not a limosine, but I survive.

Mine is a home made ute, and thus could be different.

get a SWB soft top body and cut it up, you should be able to get one for about $100 most of the time.

or do this

its a LWB soft top ute, chopped for the flat tray. the back is left open but I have a windjammer I can put on too. I have the same leg room as a standard sierra. I can lean the seat back as far as I like. and I have the airflow that a hard top lacks.

I have vitara seats fitted to mine, they sit a bit higher which gives a bit more leg room too.

ummm...... i'll have to put the back on and take a photo. the only pics I have of the zook are on runs and I always leave it off unless it rains!

its the same as this one but instead of attaching to the tonneau it attaches to the half wall with press studs.
windjammer

I will get some pics of mine for you too.

wow, thats a pretty cool idea, is there a rubber seal on the back so when you attach the windjammer the water cant flow in?

So basically you end up with a suzuki built maruti ie. soft top ute with back cut off

no reason to do any cutting at all. just by a lwb styles side. they are actually a 4 seater. you can then make up the same kind of soft top

and after a 3 hour drive with your knees beside your ears you'll wish you could put your seat back the extra 50mm.

Why is it that I've seen the same one pic of your ute that you are so proud of. You bought it, MRW82 built his.

each to their own i suppose....

but the vitara seats were in it when I brought it, they are a hell of a lot more comfy then standard sierra seats and give a better driving position. (for me anyway)
yeah im a bit of a unit, I like leg room. I have sat in a hard top ute with standard seats and struggled to lift my leg onto the clutch pedal!!!!

when I was looking to buy a zook it had to be a LWB ute, the only hardtops around were out of my budget. the very few maruti's I looked at were absolute rubbish.
found this styleside ute for the right price, so brought it with the intention from day one that I would eventually cut it down as I like the practicallity of a flat tray.

When your going slow off road, on a stinking hot day in a car with no aircon you need good airflow. I can leave the bikini top on (so I dont get roasted from the sun) and keep cool(er).

My tray is 1500mm x1500mm square, it's suprising how much stuff I can load onto it. heaps more then when it was styleside. I now have a roll bar which looks heaps better, aswell as lifting the tray up by 2".

I am happy with what I've built, its pretty capable for an open diffed vehicle and is practical for my needs.
