just putting it out there for you guys to giveme some feed back.

i work at a toyota stealaship and our parts dep. has a brand new (not reco) 1hdtfe long block with injectors sitting in the warehouse and not going anywhere,
my question is would any one be interested in it at $7260.

he has also said that if i can get some interest going he will get more motors, including hilux motors and all other models as well as nissan,
i do know he is only puttong 10ish% on it to get it moving

if you all give some good feedback i'll move to the for sale section but if it wont work im not wasting my time

trouble is you need to source all the other parts, computer etc, which will add up quick.

1HD-FTE is electronic fuel injection motor so it has a computer.

It would be good for some one who has given theres a big gulp of water or oil

or if you can get your hands on a turbo ,pump and wiring from a really bad wreck (broken engine)

Is it a 100 series or 79 series?
they are diferent
79 series has diferent pistons and it only has turbo on the cam cover
100 series has turbo intercooler on the cam cover

i'll have a look tomorrow about the cam cover, but my guess is it's from a 100

do you know for a fact that 79 and 100 have different pistons?

and who cares if it has intercooler stamped on the tappet cover or not

The pistons is what i have been told by several diferent sources is the diference in the long engine

The reason i mentioned about the "intercooler "is so that it can be identified as to which type it is

I could not give a toss about if intercooler is on the cover or not

the hundred series (so i have been told ) have lighter pistons
not designed for use without an intercooler
they allow it to rev more to help increase the power output
so this would become a concideration!!!

Does that explain it???????

I havent seen the pistons myself but a mate of mine has done alot of playing with fte's and conversions with fte's tells me the internals are exactly the same. the difference between the 100 and 79 is all in the computers, tune and intercooler.

So far i have found the diferences as follows between the 2

injector pump
turbo(runs higher boost)
computor
intercooler
the other thing is the pipes for the 100 series are called for replacement at 150k

thats what i have found when pulling apart 79 and 100 series engines
i have not personally pulled apart the core but am taking advice from others about the pistons I would say that the pistions would physically look quite similar

or may be just made from a different material if different at all

who knows lots of people told me that the only difference was the computer, tune and intercooler but since reading the toyota repair manuals and actually pulling things apart myself have i found differences
ie turbo runs 16.5 psi ,pump runs differnt pressure
so i was quite willing to believe that the pistons were different as well

maybe some one from a toyota parts dept may be able to shed some light on the topic

you could buy the motor and pull it apart
then i get a box of cans for moving it

it is out of a hunji

The 79 piston is made of different stuff to cope with the extra heat non intercooled, this is good because after intercooling, you can turn up the wick more.
