On my previous Hilux I ran a Marlin dual case setup behind a 253 Holden V8. As you know the 253 in stock form running on gas doesn't make a great deal of power. It was still enough to snap axles (or was that the way I drove
) but the transfer case and adaptor held up OK.
I often wonder the same thing you do as when I put the Patrol axles in my current Lux is it going to move the weakest link in the driveline to the transfer case?
BTW if you know of any companys other than Mark's that offer an adaptor to connect Holden or Ford auto transmissins to Hilux transfer cases could you please PM me the details.
Cheers.

I think Ruff will have an opinion on this topic. That's what he broke at XRCC in January.

If you can offord it,get it while the T/case is out if not just wait till you do break one than replace it then.

I'm running dual 23-spline t-cases behind a reasonably built V8 and a tranny with a granny first. Haven't had any problems with this setup yet. Personally, I'd be afraid to try 21-spline cases, I'll keep the fuse at the output shaft, it's much easier to replace on the trail when it breaks than an input.

The input shaft is actually easier to change. You only have to remove the front half of the transfer to replace it rather than dis-assembling the entire case to replace the output shaft. Ive replaced a few outputs for others and replaced an input for myself.

I have Broken a 21 spline input on the second case but this was allready damaged while i was still running a 22R. I replaced it with another 21 spline input and still get on it as hard as ever. 21spline inputs are everywhere here in aus and are cheap to buy. Its a lot of money to upgrade to a 23 spline and the inputs are not available in Aus.
I have spoken to Marlin in length about the strength of the 21 spline shafts and why mine broke. There are suspicions that the AA adapter 21 spline coupler is at fault to some degrea and after further inspection i would agrea. Also i was running a late model necked down style input. Im now using an early non neck down full spline type which Marlin beleives to be the strongest available stock input.
If you can afford it buy the 23 spline input but you still have to run a 21 input on the front case unless you are also buying the adapter and output shaft to suit the T700 from him as well. 21 spline on the first case will never be a problem as it only sees half the tourque as the second case.
I plan to go with the Marlin Dual case 23 spline billet adapter when the Marlin rear disconect transfer case becomes available.

If you bust the second input dont you have to get the pin from the 2WD / 4WD selector fork out before you can split the case to get the input shaft out ? Which means an almost complete rear case strip down ?
