Half Door pic

I thought I better contribute something that is Suzuki related so here is a pic of my half doors now that I have cleaned them up and sort of finished them. They are normal doors cut down. I then filled the gap with expanding foam (I know, how bling is that) then capped them with rubber sheet tech screwed. Looks pretty good I reckon especially hanging on the shed wall because why bother putting them on my $%##& Suzuki.
Currently to open the door I just push the lever in the door mechanism which works fine but I'll get around to finishing that when the car is back on the road

My half doors are still in the R and D phase - but one thing that we have done is keep the inside door opening mechanism - i think that will make them a bit more user-friendly.
All we need to do is re-mount them a little bit lower on the door

mine were half stripped when i got them and didn't have the handles or glass in them just the door mechanism

And coming from someone who has done half doors vs No doors No doors is heaps more fun.

And coming from someone who has all 3 (full, 1/2 and none) there is a time and a place for all 3

i cut my hinges
its been done for a few months now
it makes it very quick to take the doors on and off. leave them under a tree somewhere and hope they're there when you get back
if you cut your hinges and manage to re-align the doors with the cut hinges, you wont have to stuff around trying to align the doors each time you put your doors back on.
Get rid of the old rubber door straps and make a quick release strap to stop the doors swinging open to far when your in a car park

i have cut my doors and hinges. i love having the cut hinges as it takes A LOT less time to swap/remove the doors as i do it quite regularly. they don't look as clean as full hinges but i'm happy with mine. i have not noticed anything bad like hinges bending overtime or anything. my half doors have been in the half fiished stage for well over a month now, maybe i'll finish them tomorrow
then i'll post some pics.

Pete thankyou for your optimism in that my car will be going in summer i appreciate it.
N*A*M the doors I got from you are on the car and are half painted orange with some yellow bits and the brown stripes. Very retro
i was going to go the half hinge thing but once it is back on the road it will be half doors pretty much all the time

no problem mate, I think you had better stop bagging Stevie G on his 7 year build, cos I think he may be trail worthy before you
Peter.

I got full and half (and by default none as well)
aslo have cut hinges .. had em for a few years .. no problems, heaps easier than tyring to take the entire hinge on and off ...
And for all you softco*ks out there that say it looks funny.. they are bush bashed SUZUKI's ... not a Lexus landcrusier ...

I think yours would be the strongest also.

As in the strongest hinge ??
I accept that the hinge may not be as strong as it was (no antiburst capability) and only half or no doors .. is dont see the relevance ..

I think what he means is that the doors you bought off him are very strong - they have some pretty heavy capping on them - and have in fact been tested for strength by having bigsteve stand on them.

Ahh yes .. I think they are very cool ...
(if thats the case .. I will slink away in shame for my little tirade about hinge strength
)
I will be stripping the doors back and even removing the nice sticker that steve painted over ... and will be getting some high density plastic to make up new door liners. (bit more comfy on the knees) ..

tube doors would be better than no doors
they should be hella easy to make
since i have 1 drivers side half door only, i was contemplating a pass-side tube door. better visibility for the mall and all

there was a thread on pirate a few weeks back about em, looked easy to make using a simple gate latch

I am toying with the idea of adding some flexi flare to the door ..
To help stop mud etc flying up into ones face when running half doors .. but I am undure where exactly to add it .. right up the top ... half way .. or down the bottom ..
