Hi Guys,

I like the position remembering seats you get in the new Ti model Pathfinders but i dont like the vehicle price. The ones where you have two buttons that store your individual preset seat position; say for my short ass wife and me (tall). Sick of changing everything everytime i get in her car.

Can you get something aftermarket that might fit an 80 Series :?:
Even just somwhere that would make custom ones, i am sure i would still be ahead by about $30,000

What do they have fitted in the 80series sahara? I think they are electric not sure if they have memory though.

I would hunt around a european wrecking yard. You can get 5 series BMW elec seats with memory, and leather for around $350 each. Then you just have to wire them up so they work properly.

I dunno about mercs but I *think* that in general the memory is in the seats, not the ECU.

dont they link to a key in BMWs etc?
So I would have thought they must go thru the onboard computer.

I will see if I can find out more, but afaik the memory for the seat positions is held in the seat; the ECU might tell the seat whether to use memory A or memory B, but that is just a simple signal.

Don't take my word for it though, I have not looked at this closely at all and you would definitely want to research it!

How about some sort of mechanical methed? i.e. some sort of stoppers/bolts/jammers (like those used on sliding windows) at the 2 positions you want. Fitted to each part of the seat which moves.

I think he might be after more than just the forward/back adjustment to be changed automatically.

My wifes CX-9 has 3 memory pos. on it.
And they are set by the key. IE my wife's key automaticaly adjusts to her and my key adjusts to my settings.
However if you press the button 1,2 or 3 it just moves to that pos.
I am looking at finding a wrecked set for my 80 and I was told by mazda techs that the memory is in the seat and all you need to do it power it hopefully I will have a wire diagram of it soon otherwise I'll have to have a good look at the wifes and work out what wire is what when I get around to buying and installing them.

On the BMW's there is a seat control module under the drivers seat, Which is what stores and controls the memory function.

Seats with a memory have an addidional sensor on each motor which send the info to an module in the seat. I am pretty sure all seats pre 2005 are the same in this system and you will find most seats are actually made by the same manafacturer (Air International). Monaro's, Calais, Fairlane, most euro cars etc all have what you want BUT unlike the 80' model cars wher you have power and earth to operate the seat you will find they all have 10 or so wires. These wires are generally for things like seat belt lights/pretensioners, air bags, heaters, ect.
To operate a seat on the bench we generally power the motor directly as to put power to the wrong wire in a plug could result in an airbag going off

If you find a seat you really need the wiring diagram or a good auto electrician to tell you how to power it. If you can, stick to an older seat or non euro car as they tend to have a lot of complicated stuff you dont need. Having a seat that Auto adjusts when you stick the key in is petty cool untill it gets a mind of its own.

Recaro used to do an electric seat but from memory it was around the same cost as a small car. Does the Sahara or Lexus 470 have them?
