Outer Limits 4x4 Board

OK, so it seems that lightforce lights are fashionable at the moment, but how do the Lightforce 240 compare to the Cibie Turini?, they appear to be in the same class, but every second 4WD has Lightforce.

Would appreciate some informed and objective opinions.

I have used the Cibie Turini and still have a set in the garage. I found them good but the light pattern ws no better than the Super Oscar for my driving. I went back to the Super Oscars because the Turini use an H2 globe which you cant get in HID where as the Super Oscars use H1. I would still be using the Turinis if not for the globe.
I have been in vehicles with Lightforce lights and in my opinion for the terrain I drive in they offer no advantage over the Cibies.

The lights i would recommend are the narva ultima 225, i come to this conclusion after seeing lightforce that had been used by different people over a varied period of time.

I have the 225's combo (spread & spot) & am very pleased with their performance.

I can't speak for the other ones you have mentioned.

I've had Rally 2000s, then LF 240's and now trying Rally 4000's. Like the size of 4000's fit the bar a little better.

The 240's are best by far in the light stakes, and advantage of being adjustable - which is also the downfall. People can unscrew the bodies and walk off with them. Have had mine fawkt with twice now.

Will HID the 4000's this weekend... have the kit at home ready to go.

Go for a drive with someone that has LightForce XTGs........ you'll buy them

Light Force are now doing the HID upgrade kits that will fit all of there lights for approx $200 per light, making them the best & cheapest HID light on the market.
I used to run Rally 4000's, and then Super Oscars, but have found for me that the Light Force 240's are the best, and toughest light I have had. It would take alot for me to change again.

but any vagina can walk up unscrew the bodies without any tools and walk away with them.. your left with 2 stalks and globes in them (or in my case, they took the globes! and left the bodies..)
Otherwise, couldnt agree more. they are an awesome light.

Cibie Turinis don't rust

Cibie Turinis have plastc covers, therefore protecting lens

Which of the two looks better could be debated forever: some say lightforce looks tough (I agree), some say that they look redneck. I'm more interested in function, not form.

Yes, plenty of trucks have them, but I think a better indication of quality is the worldwide popularity (ARB sold worldwide for example): Turinis are sold and admired all over the world; from 4WD's in Australia to ridicously fast rally cars in Europe.

One is made in Australia, the other is made in Belgium, so I would imagine the build quality would be similiar.

and HIDs are in a different league altogether...

Apparently Jaycar do HID conversion for a very good price (someone told me $90), but don't fit Turinis: they may fit lightforce, Hella etc. This is a negative for Turinis if you wanted to upgrade to HID later on.

Old Turini's use the H2 bulb. Newer Turini models use H1.
Near impossible to modify the older models to a HID bulb, since there is no such thing as a H2 HID bulb.

Erm, sorry, but yes they do. Keep yours long enough and they will.
IPF's, Hella's, Narva's, PIAA's, Cibie's... they will all eventually rust.
More so with a bit of beach driving. Some just take longer to rust than others.

Look Into Baxters - They are HID & are in the same price range as The Above mentioned Lights, I have a set of spreads on my Drive Car & we run 6 with a Combo of spread & pencil on race tuck, they have stood up to huge punishment. All so they they are not a very Large light so they fit a huge range of 4x4's & Bull bars. (Buy direct from Warehouse)

so no better than Ebay or on4tou..

nope no better, but if you haven't had a good look or don't have a good understanding on what they are/ how they work go in and have a look in the box. Is much smaller unit than i imagined...

if you have about $550 to spend we have 4'' 7'' and 9'' hid spotlights all with a 2year warrant and have had them on all type of 4x4 comp truck here are some pic


the 9'' is ace it has a range of about 1200m
the 7''is good for about 450+ m
the 4''is good for about 250m

I have a set of rallye 4000's with 35w (5000k) HID in them. I love them, but have never driven behind a set of lightforce. Using GPS for distance, i can get reflection of a qld speed sign from 2.3km away
its hard to measure useful ground distance, far enough

Apart from the mounting nut there are no metal parts on a Nava light. How does polycarbonate rust?

If that is your car driving through the river in your avitar, then I think you are mistaken, lightforce lights offer a huge advantage in that sort of terrain.
