Any changes made to TD42 in its lifecycle?

Is the TD42 in a GU2 patrol the same engine in a GU4? Did nissan add any electronics? Is it exactly the same setup? Is there any difference in power or torque figures from GU2 to GU4?

Thanks Phil

not that i know mate, the only change i know nissan made to the TD42 was in the mid 90's (about 94) they changed the piston weights so it will rev easier but wont like a turbo as much

I think also 02 and earlier was no EGR, after was EGR.
Later ones also have electronic pump timing advance.
GQs have a vac pump on the alt, GU its a gear drive unit attached to the block.

Did the factory turbo models have oil squirters underneath the pistions?

2003 onward have intercooler, egr & timing control solenoid.

my understanding is ALL td42 have oil squirters, the turbo versions have larger squirters.

as for performance between gu2 & gu4, how long is a piece of string?
if you have 2 side by side treated EXACTLY the same from new, with the same mods/no mods, serviced the same, etc..... all those variables aside the gu4 will go better due to the intercooler & computers ability to adjust injection timing.
