MY MATE HAS A SHORT WHEELBASE MK PATROL(1985) AND IS TRYING TO GET IT REGISTERED AND WE CANT FIND THE CHASSIS NUMBER FOR THE LIFE OF US, WE HAVE REMOVED MOST OF THE DIRT FROM BOTH RAILS, AND ARE STILL HAVING TROUBLE FINDING / SEEING IT. CALLED RON HALL WHO SAID IT CAN BE IN VARIUOS POSITIONS....IF YOU HAVE HAD A SHORTWHEEL BASE MODEL COULD YOU PLESE LET ME KNOW WHERE THE NUMBER WAS STAMPED ON THE CHASSIS

i just had same drama getting my ute registered took me a week nobody could find it so i phoned head office at nissan they said outer FRONT drivers side chassis rail so as you look through the guard it should be about 200mm back from the end of the chassis rail thats were it is on the ute and wagon shorty should be same ? just make sure you use a grinder with a wire wheel mine had so much paint and dirt build up there not stamped deep enough which doesnt help good luck
