Changed oil for the first time on the new GU. 4.2L turbo diesel
anyway I drained around 13l of oil from it, i bought 10l of oil, realisticly around 9.5l of oil was poured in (some spilt ofcourse) and with 9.5l of oil its hardly reading on the dip stick... 2mm if that?

i know the GQs take around 12L when we do a change with filters,

havnt changed the new GU's oil yet, but the sumps look the same,

ive also found when oil is low like half on the dip stick it takes about 0.5L to fill it back up,

just my observation,

you reckon it would be safe to do around 300km on it with 9.5l in it?
planned on leaving at 4am tommorrow morning for our holiday up the east coast and called kmart autobarn and supercheap all are either closed of dont stock it.
do servos sell it?
dont really wanna top it up with other brand oils....

what brand was it? surely someone will have it.. if not then just get the same grade of oil in a different brand... oil is oil... it would be better than not having enough.

20/60 seems an odd range.. that maybe why you cant find it.

nissan spec the gq td42 with 20-60, I have used 20-50 turbo oil.

Nissan spec GU td42t with 15-40.

Both motors are realistically identical, so either would be fine.

I would have guessed 20/60 if you lived in Kunnanara and 15-40 if you lived in humanity?

No nissan did not spec 20w60 for the GQ TD42.

I know because in my manual it very clearly states that 15w40 is suitable for the temps we encounter here in Oz.

Mine is a Jan or Feb 93 build. Maybe they gave different specs in the earlier models?

I run the Penrite 20w60 in my TD42. I get mine from a privately owned auto shop (its the only grade they stock), but i can buy it at any of the three auto shops in town.

Dont make the mistake of running your oil low either - better off mixing another brand in (mineral oil is mineral oil) than getting the death knocks. Ask my boss!! (he cooked his motor last week, bottom end and #4 piston. Ran the oild dry, no warning light either)
