What turns on when the car turns off?

I have to replace the key-switch in the stag, as the original is a bit stuffed. The replacement comes from a different car and has an additional terminal, which gets 12V when the ignition is turned OFF, but which doesn't have power when the ignition or accessories etc are on. Since I am doing a fair bit of rewiring anyway, I was trying to think of any vaguely useful job this terminal could do.

Any thoughts? I really can't think of anything.

Maybe like a window closer, electric aerial....

Dunno, do you know what the terminal was originally used for ?

Yeah a cheap flashing LED if you don't already have an alarm/immobilizer, it can at least LOOK like it does!

No idea, it is just a terminal on the switch that has no wire on it, while all the others have a wire soldered to them. So I guess it might have been unused. Although it is strange that it exists at all.

Odd!

I like the flashing LED idea.

Alarms I think usually sense the ignition being off, so...

The funny thing is that the key switch thing is from a 1972 triumph saloon, so it can't possibly have been for an alarm or whatever.

Maybe I will wire it to a flashing LED, since it's there. I can't be bothered with real alarms any more, I don't think they achieve much except to cause hassles when they malfunction!

hey...
it may be similar to an old school switch.
off is the click before that...
that terminal is like accessories
so it goes
1: accessories
2: off
3: ignition
4: start

just a quick question.....what did the switch come out of?
