i have a safari, effectively a gq, the vacum boost is driven off the back of the alternator which limits the types of alternator i can put in its place.
now how is the vacum supplied in the GU's? is it an electric vacum pump or is driven off the engine elswhere like the water pump. if its electric how many amps does it pull.

To get the GU or late GQ (they came in the 95 and later TD42 GQ's) the Vacuum pump as well as the front and rear Timing case covers as they are slightly different to incorperate the pump below the Injector pump

i have been thinking about this too. How hard is it to do the swap? I have been told $800 for a 120A alternator with vac pump. Would it be cheaper to change the vac pump to the late model one?
